Al Franken for Senator | 04/01/2009 8:45 am
Al Franken One Step Closer to Being Senator

We’re glad we don’t live in Minnesota, because that state has only had one senator for the past four months. And the battle continues.
The state Supreme Court yesterday sided with former "Saturday Night Live" actor Al Franken, who’s been fighting to oust incumbent Republican Norm Coleman over absentee ballots ever since last November’s super close election.
Coleman appealed Franken’s 225-vote victory, but so far things aren’t going his way. In yesterday’s ruling a panel of judges rejected Coleman’s call to count up to 1,400 absentee ballots that he claimed had been incorrectly rejected. They did order 400 absentee ballots to be opened and counted, but many of those were ones that Franken claimed had been improperly rejected. Those 400 will be opened and counted on April 7, and while it’s mathematically possible Coleman could pull it out, it’s highly improbable.
After the ruling Franken’s lawyer, Mark Elias, told reporters "We are obviously pleased." And Coleman’s lawyer? Benjamin Ginsberg, who worked on Bush v Gore, said his indefatigable client would appeal if things don’t go his way. So when will the 2.9 million Minnesotans who voted have a senator? Definitely by Christmas. We hope.

Then why are all the courts ruling against Coleman? All the courts are unfairly biased towards Franken? If this were as you say, Coleman’s case would have been a slam dunk, end of story off to Washington. Instead we have all these political and legal machinations trying to stall the inevitable. I still think he needs to man up and concede the election. Right now he looks like a whiney loser. JMO.
Poor Minnesotans will have to do without representation in DC for now.
Look at your past history of governors and figure out why you vote in comedians.
In fact Franken is quite smart and funny and he might surprise you.
