Ann Coulter Explains Palin's Exit

By Ann Coulter
© AP
Editor’s Note: Ann Coulter is a political commentator, syndicated columnist and bestselling author. Her latest book is Guilty: Liberal "Victims" and Their Assault on America.

I’m confused by all the confusion among the chattering classes about Palin. I thought her press conference explained it very clearly – though she couldn’t put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but it’s obvious.

Even though she’s just a state governor, she’s a HUGE national star who is both sought after and attacked as if she is already a president (a Bush, not an Obama). But she basically can’t participate because she’s tethered to the governor’s office up in Alaska. Consequently, she has to fight with one hand tied behind her back and she also can’t go around the country campaigning for candidates and principles she believes in – because she’s governor and would be accused of neglecting the state.

Meanwhile, the Lt. Gov. is a great guy, so she’s leaving the state in good hands and now she can go on to be an even bigger star.

It’s a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what she’s doing. Contrary to Mark Sanford’s e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didn’t know who he was.  Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill O’Reilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but – and she didn’t say this part – she’s too  big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.

She’ll be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry – both of whom went back to the Senate – because their national campaigns diminished them. Palin’s national campaign made her a major star. As she said, she’s not retreating, she’s advancing in another direction.

once again, you are IGNORING THE POINT.

kids have sex, they are having sex, and they always will. that is the nature of humans. if you don’t like it, that is too bad because it’s true.

and since a large portion of teens WILL have sex, they need to be provided with the correct and accurate health information they need to stay safe and baby free.

OF COURSE its BEST to NOT HAVE SEX, NO ONE IS SAYING DIFFERENT.

the POINT is that there are LOTS of kids who WILL have sex no matter what you say, and so it is for EVERYONES best interest to TEACH THEM HOW TO BE SAFE.

also, there are tons of people (married or otherwise) who never want to have babies and so this knowledge would be good for them as well.

to not teach kids about safe sex is putting the health and lives of young children, REAL PEOPLE, at extreme risk of sexually transmitted infections, diseases, and unwanted pregnancies.

it has nothing to do with your idea of morality.

"My idea of morality" will actually work! There has always been "pressure" through advertising, entertainment, and simple temptation to enter into relationships or one night stands that wind up hurting the people involved. Most often it’s the girl. What you are not paying any attention to is the impulsivity of children. Teenagers are children developing into adults. They do not have all of the skills to weigh out consequences. Encouraging behavior that leads to unwanted pregnancies, there are no completely infalliable birth control methods, other than the one I suggested. The biggest and best lesson all of us need to learn is that there are always consequences. Teens tend to like to avoid that end of the bargain. I think maybe you and I are entrenched in our own opinion. Having seen the consequences of impulsive behavior in people close to me, I remain firm in what I have posted.

no dear, it doesnt work. if it did, those who were taught abstinence only wouldn’t have had sex.

they ARE having sex, getting infected, and having babies they dont want and dont have the means to take care of.

What you are not paying any attention to is the impulsivity of children.

YOU are not paying attention to the impulsivity of kids! THEY ARE IMPULSIVE, so no matter how many times you tell them to not do something, as YOU even said, they are impulsive and make mistakes…

dont you agree??

so that means, telling them to NOT do something wont work all the time - you just said so yourself by mentioning that children are impulsive.

Encouraging behavior that leads to unwanted pregnancies

who is encouraging? what are you talking about?

The biggest and best lesson all of us need to learn is that there are always consequences

oh my god, that’s EXACTLY what comprehensive sex education does. what are you babbling about?

Having seen the consequences of impulsive behavior in people close to me, I remain firm in what I have posted.

that makes no sense at all… you see people being impulsive and not making good decisions… so you expect them to not have sex?

no logic whatsoever.

Mary, this discussion is not about now, it’s about Palin’s resignation, and the life that led up to her feeling harassed. In truth, she had no other choice, and the top Republicans discussed that on the TV news shows this AM. As for Independents, we see things clearly.

I have to laugh when I keep hearing the ‘killing animal mantra" - WOLVES!!!! Culled every year in every state that has them the exact same way! It only became an issue because some ditch digger was trying to find dirt on Palin! This ammunition is a dud …. find something new and accurate to throw at her will you?

Greeting from another set of Irish eyes! Frankly there is much about what has gone on since January that I’m having an easy time living with. I continue to hope that we will survive the three and a half years we’ve got left.

Ha!  I was just reading about that:  From an AP story on Yahoo news:

"""""Palin’s personal spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, confirmed to The Associated Press that the Facebook posting was written by the governor.

The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans has fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.

"To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as ‘fact’ that Governor Palin resigned because she is ‘under federal investigation’ for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."""""

NOW KELLY…What happen to that ole Freedom of Speech shout out we too often hear from the terminally whining Republicans as they cry VICTEM! SARAH can’t give anybody hell, she is too busy doing the oops!, I violated another ethics law two step. I have a copy of the letter of recommendation Sarah wrote to the Alaskan State Police on behalf of her then brother in law to get him a job. This was one  of her very early ethics violations as Mayor of Wasilla. Sarah-Barbie wrote that  letter of recommendation on Wasilla mayoral letterhead. You do not write a personal letter of recommendation on the Mayor’s stationary exhorting them to hire your brother in law. Everything in the Mayor’s office is paid for by the taxpayers. You do not use the authority of your office to get a relative a job. Could one of SarahBarbie’s constitutents get her to write them a letter of recommendation for their job search?  It was a clear abuse of power which eventually turned into Troopergate . As Governor, SP turned on the man about which she had written so glowingly. He had become her ex brother in law having left her sister for another woman and the Governor wanted his job back. So this guy who was once the salt of the earth, was now a dirty rat and she wanted the State Police to fire him. When the much honored head of the Alaska State Police refused to do that, Good ole Barbie, fired the the head of the State Police, whom she had originally begged to come out of retirement and take the job because he was the single best man for the job.  But I guess he could only keep that job if he was willing to ignore  Alaska’s State ethics privacy laws and let her see her brother’s employement folder which would have been illegal. But hey what did she care…she was the Governor. Now who was doing all the threatening of state employees in Troopergate? …The Stud, Todd the First Spouse…and how did a guy never elected to anything get the authority to even discuss state matters with state employees?  By gosh, SP’s idea of Governor was  that it was a family matter. First stud spent 50 percent of his time in the Governor’s office going to meetings, setting policy and bullying state employees. But then I guess that’s SP’s version of family values government style.  This woman is a walking ethics violation… all of these infractions were not pursued in a Republican administration, because she was the Boss, until she went in search of her 15 minutes. She opened the door and the media walked in and Alaskans finally were able to get our attention….Give her hell Alaska!

This is a great idea — suing bloggers and publications that reprint fraudulent claims stated as "fact" — wouldn’t that be a great way to shut Limbaugh and his ilk down?   =)

took the thoughts right out of my head … and wouldn’t that mess Palin up to run for anything?

Sheesh, heat in the kitchen comes with the territory. "Anne, are you listening?" Obviously, Palin cannot take it.

Once again, though, I say this, and said it before, she’s a victim that has not yet learned to "let go," and find herself, much less pull back from what McCain did to her. It was sad from day 1, and he ought to be bitten in the kneecaps.
