Are Sarah Palin's Enemies Simply Hoping She'll Go Broke?

Sarah Palin’s vice-presidential run last year certainly inflamed her critics.
Since the end of the campaign, Palin, who, in case you didn’t know, is the governor of Alaska, has fought back against at least 11 ethics complaints. The most recent complaint accuses Palin of a conflict of interest for wearing a jacket made by the brand that sponsors her husband’s snowmobile career.
The complaint was filed by a local blogger who wrote, "[Palin] improperly used her position and state resources to serve her personal financial interests by being a walking billboard for Arctic Cat, a private for-profit company and family business sponsor." Palin scoffed at the complaint, reports the Miami Herald:
Yes, I wore Arctic Cat snow gear at an outdoor event, because it was cold outside, and by the way, today I am wearing clothes bearing the names of Alaska artists, and a Glennallen Panthers basketball hoodie.
Should I expect to see an ethics charge for wearing these, or the Carhartts I wear to many public events? How much will this blogger’s asinine political grandstanding cost all of us in time and money?
Right-wing blog Red State, meanwhile, has come to Palin’s defense, and claims the governor’s enemies aren’t interested in catching Palin in a game of ethical "gotcha," but are, instead, attempting to make her and her family "destitute."
From just September till now, Sarah Palin has accumulated a personal dept of more than $500,000 in legal fees defending herself against fake/false/frivolous ethics charges.
These people want to bankrupt the Palins and leave them destitute. They want to empty their bank accounts so that they cannot afford the basics and necessities of life after Governor Palin leaves office.
That could very well be true, but considering Palin is looking for a book deal — and could make up to $7 million with one — we’re not too worried about the lawmaker’s financial future.

I hate to tell you this, dear, but it was indeed infused with life; McCain jumped over 10 points in polls when she was announced as his running mate.To say that "they didn’t win thus she didn’t help his campaign" is ridiculous; not only was the situation much more complicated than you seem to admit (including the media’s complicity in lynching Palin, and thereby degrading Palin’s appeal), but elections aren’t a pass/fail exam. You can win or lose by varying margins, and a vice-presidential candidate can aid or injure them. McCain’s campaign was dead before Palin came on the scene; only after she showed up did Republicans get energized for McCain. Heck, the media has acknowled so many times.
Oh, and, seeing as how you’re posting on this thread, I guess she *does* register on your radar…
You want "bitchy", dear, read the post to which I was responding. Or yours, for that matter. :-)
She was the media’s darling, was she? That’s why, I suppose, magazines ran covers with titles like "Babies, Lies and Scandals", or why blogger’s ridiculous rumors saw mainstream press, and the foxhounds went to Alaska to dig up any dirt whatsoever on Palin? Sorry, but that’s not going to fly.
And, since you brought up Gibson, you must remember his interview with Palin?
At one point he said, "You said recently, in your old church, ‘Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.’ Are we fighting a holy war?"
She responded, "You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote."
He said, "Exact words."
She really said, "Pray our military men and women who are striving to do what is right also for this country — that our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.."

Charlie Gibson tried to lynch Palin, and make her come off as some sort of religous whacko. He went so far as to deliberately lie about her words. Let’s face it, in other circumstances, Gibson would have lost his job for that sort of slanderous misquoting; he violated all journalistic standards of integrity and honesty, and yet, who even mentions it?
I reiterate, the media wanted to lynch Palin because they feared her.
Oh, and as for your statement that "Palin helped screw it up for the GOP", you should know that, for many people, myself included, Palin was what convinced us absolutely to vote for McCain; where I had been uncertain, particularly when Hillary was still in the race but it was clear that McCain had won the Republican nomination, her appearance made my mind up. You say you "may" have voted for McCain if Palin wasn’t there; I did vote for McCain because Palin was.
Nanny—"She opened her mouth" the day McCain announced her as his VP—and she gave an incredible speech that day. Immediately, the MSM began to trash her. They had to acknowledge her great speech, but they cautioned "Well, a speech is one thing, let’s see how well she does with the press". So, if she was "the media’s darling", I and everyone else must have missed it or it only lasted a nanosecond. I watched her give that speech live that day—she was fantastic so I knew the media would be out to get her and sure enough they wasted no time. I would have loved for Katie Couric to ask Obama what publications he read, or for that matter anyone in the MSM to have asked Obama a hard questions instead of all the fawning they tried to pass off as hard news. The media eviscerated Sarah Palin and anyone who doesn’t see that is not honest with themselves.
As to all of you "republicans" or "former republicans" who didn’t vote for McCain because of Palin—that just doesn’t make any sense on so many levels. You would vote for a far left liberal instead—what does that say about your belief system? Also, you are in the same category as all of the supposed intellectual right like Brooks, Noonan, C. Buckley etc—who all have "buyer’s remorse" now—after they told us how "brilliant" Obama was and ignored all the facts about him, "hoping" he would "govern from the middle"——not so "smart" afterall, were they?
I never got that either. You don’t like the Republican’s #2, so you choose the Democrat’s #1, who is a million times worse than the worst that can be attributed to Palin. The whole "I don’t want her a heart beat way from the presidency argument", so I’ll choose someone worse and put him IN the presidency to "punish" McCain for choosing her, line of "reasoning" never made sense…my Mom would always say to things like that that it was "cutting off your nose to spite your face". :P
