Ashley Biden Cocaine Scandal Brings to Mind First-Family Screwups

Ashley Biden’s alleged coke scandal reminds us of the shenanigans of all those other Oval Office relatives. Anyone for some Billy Beer?

Photo Essay

With all the hubbub this week over an alleged video showing Ashley Biden snorting cocaine, we here at wowOwow.com thought we’d reminisce about some other bona-fide executive-office kin who definitely screwed up. Click through this photo essay to see who made the cut.

I seem to remember (just barely) Jimmy Carter’s daughter, I think her name is Amy, causing a bit of a stir when her dad was president. She was a protester of some sort. I can’t remember what she protested for or against thougth (maybe someone out there can help me and remembers) it was in the news alot.

Amy was not a protester when her dad was president. She was nine years old!

That’s not accurate either. Amy and her parents are politically in synch. And Jimmy Carter is the wisest and most decent man to hold the presidency since World War II. Carter’s energy policy would have made the US self-sufficient by 2000, but Reagan, at the behest of his corporate masters at the oil companies, dismantled it. Reagan even removed the solar panels Carter installed at the White House.

For some reason, Republicans prefer their presidents to be ignoramuses, and proud of it.

Our elected and former officials have enough on their plates without the public making fun of their extended families. Just because you have been raised together does not mean that you think alike or hold the same ideals.

Let’s not forget to have some compassion for the families of those who serve or have served in office. They are thrust in the limelight with their flaws maximized and exaggerated. Sometimes we find that things attributed to them never really happened the way it was portrayed. They are not asking for this treatment. Why should we be rehashing it now?

With every famous family whose kids get into trouble, I think, "There, but for the grace of God, go I [and my family]."  And, when I look back at my youth, I thank God that I never got caught when I was involved in various illicit activities.  "Judge not that ye be not judged!  Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

P.S. I should add that I’m an atheist but Western culture will do it do you every time ;)

Both the stories on this use the word "alleged."  I’m giving the girl the benefit of the doubt.
