Ashley Biden Drug Scandal | 03/30/2009 9:30 am

Ashley Biden, the VP's Daughter, in Cocaine Scandal (Update)

You would think that people in the public eye would stay away from drug parties that are being recorded on video for posterity or future sale. But Ashley Biden, the daughter of Vice President Joe Biden, may not have gotten the memo.

An acquaintance of the 27-year-old claims to have a video of Ms. Biden snorting cocaine at a party. A 43-minute tape that allegedly shows the vice president’s daughter doing the drug has been offered for sale though a DC lawyer.

Snippets of the tape have been viewed by several media outlets, including the New York Post and Radaronline.com, which report that the footage shows her snorting several lines of the powder while at a party and, at another point, shouting "Shut the f*** up!" She also allegedly jokes that the lines of coke aren’t big enough. So far no one has bought the tape — the Post says the price is $400,000; Radaronline says it would have cost them $250,000 — but the damage is done.

The video is said to have been shot this year and those who have seen it say the camera did not appear to be concealed. If it is Ashley Biden, a social worker for the state of Delaware, that makes us wonder just how foolish (or high) she could have been.

UPDATE: The lawyer who was helping Ms. Biden’s "friend" has dropped the client, according to Huffington Post. We’re sure Biden - and the White House - are breathing a sigh of relief.

She is so wrong LL, it’s pitiful to even read such ignorance. I think she needs to get herself educated on the damage pot does to the brain………Sheesh, I can’t believe the stuff that comes out of folk’s mouths.

Reminder… you can disagree with someone without name-calling and assigning it to party affiliation.  Thanks!

When you don’t respond with my evidence with your own, that means you just can’t find anything. I’ll never understand that kind of mindset… "I totally disagree with you, but I’m not going to give you any reasons to think otherwise!" That is quite an immature response to an appropriate and important discussion. Would you want our leaders to respond that way?

I have read a good amount of literature on the subject, and there are many scientists, doctors, and researchers who disagree with your off-the-cuff assessment of cannabis. I think you would do well to "get educated" as well with other reliable sources:

First of all, if brain damage is your concern, you should be working to make alcohol illegal because it is KNOWN to cause brain damage, damage to a fetus in the womb, ect ect… I’m sure you can’t argue with me on that. If you have a source that states normal marijuana use causes brain damage, please give it to me, I would appreciate it. If you are referencing the older government tests that were administered on a primate with an air-tight mask sealed around its mouth and nose, into which they pumped pure cannabis smoke into his lungs for over a half an hour… why yes… suffocation *will* produce brain damage:

Dale Gieringer, PhD, State Coordinator of CalNORML, wrote in his article "Marijuana Health Mythology," (accessed Apr. 20, 2006):
"Government experts now admit that pot doesn’t kill brain cells.

This myth came from a handful of animal experiments in which structural changes (not actual cell death, as is often alleged) were observed in brain cells of animals exposed to high doses of pot. Many critics still cite the notorious monkey studies of Dr. Robert G. Heath, which purported to find brain damage in three monkeys that had been heavily dosed with cannabis. This work was never replicated and has since been discredited by a pair of better controlled, much larger monkey studies, one by Dr. William Slikker of the National Center for Toxicological Research [William Slikker et al., ‘Chronic Marijuana Smoke Exposure in the Rhesus Monkey,’ Fundamental and Applied Toxicology17: 321-32 (1991)] and the other by Charles Rebert and Gordon Pryor of SRI International [Charles Rebert & Gordon Pryor - ‘Chronic Inhalation of Marijuana Smoke and Brain Electrophysiology of Rhesus Monkeys,’ International Journal of Psychophysiology V 14, p.144, 1993].

Neither found any evidence of physical alteration in the brains of monkeys exposed to daily doses of pot for up to a year.

Human studies of heavy users in Jamaica and Costa Rica found no evidence of abnormalities in brain physiology.

Even though there is no evidence that pot causes permanent brain damage, users should be aware that persistent deficits in short-term memory have been noted in chronic, heavy marijuana smokers after 6 to 12 weeks of abstinence. It is worth noting that other drugs, including alcohol, are known to cause brain damage."

I know it’s tough on these boards to get any truth across, but you have done so in a polite and inciteful  manner.  Thanks for your documenting your arguement, many here just throw stuff out and see if it sticks.  Even though I am not a marijuana user and never used it as a teen (grew up in a military family and would have been sure my dad would have found out!), I do not believe it is as bad as alcohol who’s devestation I have seen first hand.  Thanks again for your information.

I really do appreciate your polite support! :) I have to agree with you on your assessment of alcohol being a worse substance, as I agree. Alcohol and cigarettes are more of a gateway drug than marijuana - those are legal! I definitely know cigarettes and alcohol are much more dangerous to human health - tobacco has nearly NO medicinal properties, and neither does alcohol. Alcohol can KILL you in a few hours if you ingest enough - you could never eat enough cannabis to kill yourself. I’ve been on college campuses… you can tell which angry frat boys have been drinking, and which giggly art students have smoking pot. I don’t think i’ve ever seen a violent pot user.

Ha Bibi, unfortunately, you are closed minded, because the research she has posted is true and reliable.

Libra Lady, Obama likes marijuana doesn’t he?  Maybe that’s next on the "Hope and Change" list….since we are modeling ourselves after European countries now.

We might want to ask China if it is okay since they own us….if you are caught smoking marijuana in China you get the death penalty.

Deber….very good point…obama also was a cokehead…..so maybe he will change his mind after he gets done with all the paperwork on how to cover the car warranties!!!   That could be his next agenda!!  But you are right China will not allow it….so if the libs think a fine and a little jail time is terrible for getting caught with pot now….what will they do when they could be up for the death penalty…..now there is something to put in your pipe and smoke it!!!  wink wink
