Ashley Biden Drug Scandal | 03/31/2009 9:15 am

Ashley Biden's Neglected Pot Arrest

Did the Bidens reprimand daughter Ashley when she was reportedly arrested ten years ago for possession of marijuana?

While the case was dropped soon after her alleged 1999 arrest, the daughter of Vice President Joe Biden and Professor Jill didn’t bother to erase the case from her record. Her attorney at the time, Frederick King, told the press that Ashley simply didn’t have the inclination. "She wasn’t interested."

She wasn’t interested? But why? Did her marijuana bust not cause a rift in the Biden household? One would presume this would have led to some serious punishment. Or, at least, a discussion on steering clear of illegal substances.

Now, let’s fast-forward a decade. An acquaintance of Ms. Biden came forward this weekend with a videotape he or she says shows Ashley snorting cocaine.

If indeed that is her on the tape, perhaps she didn’t learn a lesson from her run-in with the law. Perhaps her punishment wasn’t harsh enough to really make her think of the repercussions of being caught doing drugs.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t make the Bidens look good. Professor Jill Biden has a strong background in education and serves as a role model for the women trying to balance both career and family. Vice President Joe Biden has historically been one of the more outspoken crusaders against drugs. He launched a campaign to curb drug use near schools and helped create the nation’s Drug Czar office and drug courts. In fact, in 1982 he coined the term "drug czar."

Today the VP meets with Costa Rican President Óscar Arias and other Central American figures. The war on drugs will be one of several hot topics discussed.

But despite these indiscretions, let’s not forget that Ashley’s a wonderful girl. Her career at a child-welfare agency speaks volumes about her character, and we’re sure she will grow into just as fine of a woman as her mother.

It was a setup.

The video purporting to show Vice President Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley snorting cocaine was preplanned by a man trying to get rich selling the tape, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

The man, who is apparently a friend of Ashley’s, even bought the cocaine and the hidden camera, our investigation has uncovered.

Thank you for sharing this, LL. I hope this "friend" of hers is somewhere very far away from Ashley now. "With friends like that…."

UPDATE: The lawyer who was helping Ms. Biden’s "friend" has dropped the client, according to Huffington Post.

How unfortunate for the Biden family.    What is happening to our country?

I think many news organizations, maybe not in this case, since it did not hit many of the airwaves, are just searching for any kind of news they can drum up and report before investigating….kind of reminds me of the story of Gov. Palin banning books from the library….books such as Harry Potter who hadn’t even been in print at the time the article was written and accused  her of doing such that….just sayin’!!!    I think the internet is something you have to really  be careful in choosing what to and what not to believe!!!

Libra, "tabloid" journalism.   It started with Sarah Palin and morphed into "breaking news."   We have two major newspapers where I live…one is pro Obama and one is not!   That’s the problem.   Newspapers have crossed a line and met their death.

LOL!  Tabloid journalism was around LONG before Sarah Palin was even born!

It totally replaced real journalism unfortunately.   I agree it has been around for awhile!

I agree with you deber B.  I think that kind of reporting was also called "yellow" journalism.  It’s a darn shame.

Same with Wowowow, too LL. I just dropped in on this useless coverage to add my minute 2 cents about being tired of such articles.

Regardless of the "set up", the fact remains that the girl was snorting coke.  Let’s not sugar cote this.  And for God sake, can we stop sending Joe down to Central America as our "Drug Czar" when his daughter is helping to create demand???  I am so sick of the hypocrisy I could puke.

I just got done writing a comment in the "prison thread" about how I believe that marijuana should be legalized, so I won’t address that here.

What I will address is the marijuana possession is still against the law.  As the daughter of a prominent politician, she had to have known that.  I’m sure she also knew her actions would affect her father.  The fact that she didn’t care or not if the action was erased from her record says it all, she just doesn’t care.

Maybe she wanted to hurt her father…. I don’t know.  I’m not a psychologist.  But to continue to have a position around children (as a social worker and board member of the YMCA)after she has not once but twice publicly broken the law is inappropriate.  She needs to resign and take care of herself before being held up as a role model for children.

Do any of you have any idea how many 17 yr olds in the states smoke pot?A huge number—it’s readily available—legalise it—now. Clear these petty things out of the court system and make time in the courts for the criminals who really need it.

I’m happy to see that it is not legalized in our country.   Just because people break the law doesn’t mean we should erase it off the books.
