Playtime for the Obama Daughters: Hanging With Alicia Keys, New Swingset (Photos)

Photoshoots with Alicia Keys for Glamour magazine, a new playhouse … it’s fun being Sasha and Malia, the First Daughters
By The Staff at wowOwow.com

Weeee!!! It must be fun being First Daughters Sasha and Malia Obama!

From top designers begging to dress them, to fashion shoots with Alicia Keys, the Obama girls are definitely learning the perks of life in the White House. The two were greeted with a sweet surprise after school Wednesday: a brand-new swing set, complete with monkey bars, ladder, tire swing and more.

And, as an added touch of patriotism, a copper colored plaque on one of the beams reads, "Malia and Sasha castle handcrafted with pride in the heartland of America … God bless America." (The "heartland of America" means Nebraska.) Sasha Obama, 7 and Malia, 10, reportedly squealed with delight.

Meanwhile, the girls, who are big fans of teenage singers, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, spent hours with Alicia Keys for Glamour magazine’s "American Icons" issue, which honors young, positive role models for America’s youth. The Obama girls are dressed in matching pale pink dresses holding hands with the famous R & B star.

While life does seem surreal for the young ones, it’s true that it’s not all playtime for Sasha and Malia. First Lady Michelle Obama says the girls continue to do their chores, and we’re sure, once they get that Portuguese Water Dog, they’ll surely be walking it around the White House lawn.

Wait a minute!  Who’s the dog in the picture?

Don’t know if you seriously want an answer, but I asked same question. Clicked on credit line under photo and saw that this is one photo in a series of staged impersonations (e.g., Chanel Iman as Althea Gibson, Emma Roberts as Audrey Hepburn, Camilla Belle as Mary Tyler Moore). So the dog is probably just a "prop."

Well, Rats!  I saw the picture and thought, "Yippee! the girls finally have their puppy!"  I know their dad’s been busy, but if I’m getting impatient, I can only imagine how they’re feeling.

Yes.  And whew, busy’s not the word for it!  But you know how time passes so much more slowly for children.  I’ve actually been hoping that they got the dog, but skipped the big media reveal, but there’s probably no chance of that.  I can’t imagine that any shelter in the nation wouldn’t let them know the minute a Portugese Water Dog shows up.  Maybe they’ve found the mother, and they’re just waiting until the puppies are weaned.  Wouldn’t that be amazing!  Everything that’s happened…in the time it takes to wean a puppy.

I did misread your comment.  These are scary times.  I adapted my lifestyle from relative wealth to relative poverty a long time ago, and I don’t wish that type of transition on anyone, but I’m happy enough at this point.  In fact, I can honestly say, I’m one of the few "upwardly mobile" people I know.  Ha!  I have two sons in the army, one of whom is heading to Afghanistan this fall.  I love my country, and I don’t want to see it fall into ruin.  That doesn’t mean I’m blind to the risks our new President is taking with our future.  You’re good people too.

How adorable! Good for them. I hope (and am sure) they are going to cherish this part of their lives. They are indeed fortunate little girls.

Those girls have great stuff to do once their homework and chores are done - lucky!!

They deserve every perk the White House has to offer them!  When you think of all the intrusions they have to put up with, not to mention having a Father who puts his life on the line every day being the President.  I’m sure Caroline Kennedy would’ve traded her darling little pony in for one more hug from her Dad.

Let the girls enjoy their years in The White.  Though their swingset is within the line of sight of their father’s office - they’re just kids.

Don’t mean to burst any bubbles, but the girls in the picture aren’t Sasha and Malia…
