Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal: 'It's OK to Want Obama to Fail'

When he gave the Republican response to President Obama’s February address to Congress, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal was roundly criticized for a delivery style that fell somewhere between Mr. Rogers and "30 Rock’s" Kenneth the Page. But that hasn’t stopped the 37-year-old up-and-comer from speaking out against Obama.

Last night, while headlining a Republican fund-raiser for 1,200 in Washington, Jindal weighed in on the side of those (like Rush Limbaugh) who have no problem with hoping for the worst: an Obama administration failure. "My answer to the question is very simple," he said. "’Do you want the president to fail?’ It depends on what he is trying to do."

Jindal, who helped raise more than $6 million for his former House colleagues for the 2010 midterm elections (and perhaps build support for a potential 2012 presidential bid), was speaking 12 blocks from the White House, just before President Obama’s press conference. He called the question of hoping for Obama’s "failure," "the latest gotcha game" played by Democrats against Republicans. "This is political correctness run amok," he said.

"Make no mistake: Anything other than an immediate and compliant, ‘Why no sir, I don’t want the president to fail,’ is treated as some sort of act of treason, civil disobedience or political obstructionism." (Hmmm. Why does that sound so similar to what Republicans used to say to any challenges to George W. Bush’s policies on terrorism, war or torture?)

Jindal also criticized Obama and Nancy Pelosi for their "spending spree." Jindal does put his money where his mouth is: He turned down $98 million in federal stimulus money for expanded unemployment benefits in Louisiana.

We were in the biggest deficit in history BEFORE the economic crisis that hit in September. This administration has been forced to deal with it, and a stimulus package and bail outs are necessary. The last 8 years led to this and the Democrats are stuck cleaning up the mess, apparently with zero help from the "I hope they fail" Republicans.

this will probably be deleted but the Democrats - not the Republicans were in charge of Congress and a lot of the spending that took place during the Bush administration ….

But Mel Berg, in 2006 the Govt spending to GDP was 20.4% and the deficit to GDP was -1.9%!

Right now, today is 2009 its, Govt. spending to GDP is 27.7% and the deficit is to GDP -12.7% ! Its like the EU, Eurpean Union said, "the Obama administration is spending America to hell"!

This video clearly shows that George Bush tried to warn Congress starting in 2001, that this economic crisis was coming, if something was not done.  But congress refused to listen, along with the arrogant Congressman, Barney Frank.  This video says it all. The liberal media reportedly did not want this video on You Tube; it was taken off. This link is of the same video but is routed through Canada.  Everyone in America needs to see this before it is yanked off the internet again!  Let’s see how far we can spread it before the liberals pull it off the Canadian site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMnSp4qEXNM&NR=1

Canuck, for some reason I can’t get it but don’t need to anyway. If Bush wanted to get something done, why didn’t he push the republican congress? Oh, I suppose that you will tell me it was Frank that stopped them, well that don’t hold water either.

Before we get too far into the discussion and debate - reminder to stay on-topic.  Name-calling and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Let’s have a civil, intelligent and productive discussion on what can work instead of simply criticizing each other for what you believe cannot work.

In debating an issue, it is just as important to express what can and  what cannot work.  It’s a republican/democrat debate.  We aren’t going to agree.    If wowOwow wants us to engage in conversation we should have the freedom of speech to express how we feel, what we believe to be true and what we have researched.   In doing so, we draw our own conclusions.

I understand staying on topic.   I understand and agree with no name calling and personal attacks.   I don’t understand being told the direction our posts should take in order to be acceptable to wowOwow.

The direction isn’t a mandate, it’s a suggestion as a way to have a discussion that doesn’t spiral into a festival of negativity thus limiting it to only a few rather than inspiring newcomers on the site to join in the conversation.

Perhaps the pieces should be presented in a more inspirational rather than sensational fashion and then fewer ‘negative spirals’ would erupt.

Just expressing my own rational opinion. Welcome to all who care to express theirs, too!

Happy to pass along that suggestion to Editorial.

Deber, I am also not enjoying the sudden onset of über policing on the site.  I have never been on a thread anywhere on the net where bloggers stayed 100% on topic.  Oh well, it was bound to eventually lose it’s joie de vivre.  Such is life.

A little off-topic is great and even encouraged.  Dragging a conversation off-topic for the purpose of name-calling and treating comments as a private IM session to the exclusion of others isn’t.
