Bobby Jindal's Wife Supriya Talks Politics – and Romance – With Meghan McCain

Supriya Jindal is something else. A chemical engineer who’s raising three children, the 37-year-old also runs a foundation for underprivileged children and, perhaps most importantly, has embraced her role as the nation’s youngest first lady.
Her husband, of course, is Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a man who’s become somewhat of a national joke after his slow, drawl-soaked speech responding to President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress last month.
Despite that, Mr. Jindal is still seen as a leading contender for his party’s contested leadership. Punch lines and political rumors, however, don’t mean much to Mrs. Jindal, who tells The Daily Beast’s Meghan McCain that she and her husband are focused on more local business:
Bobby’s focus always has been and should stay, and will stay, on Louisiana. That has to be his first priority and that is his first priority; making a difference here in Louisiana for families here in Louisiana. So all this talk is just talk going around. You know, we will see what happens but he is focused on his reelection here in Louisiana and making a difference in our state.
It’s very flattering, it’s very nice, but I think the Party as a whole and the country as a whole needs to focus on solutions right now and not focus on who the next candidate’s going to be. All of that needs to go by the wayside. We have dire problems going on in the country and we need to focus on that right now.
In addition to discussing politics, Mrs. Jindal also shared her own biographical journey, like moving from India to the United States, converting to Christianity and her near-miss love affair with the governor, whom she first met in high school. "He used to tell his friends that ‘I really like her, I really want to ask her out,’ but he never had the courage to ask me out," Supriya explained. "Well, he finally did at the end of our high-school year and I told him no." It wasn’t until years later, after college, that Jindal called Supriya again and asked her to a political event. Curious to see how he turned out, Supriya agreed and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jindal was weird as well as frightening! He has this odd facial expression and this strange look in his eyes . He looks sickly. I did not understand his drawl. What was that all about? It appears to me the Jindals are auditioning for the White House. Who are they trying to fool? Stevie Wonder can see through the blarney!
Jindal is east Indian is he not? He was born in America with the proper birth certificate. He actually has a southern accent. But he looks every bit what he is. How is he weird and frightening?
L.C. you disappoint me. I’ve read your posts before and I assume you were above all this. But I was wrong.
When I look at Barney frank and the way he talks, and Chris Dodd with that weird and odd expression on his face, who is Jindal that you who point him out as such? Get over it dude.
Lori F. I can never forgive myself for disappointing you! Seriously, his manner was robotic and his tone condescending. I found his presentation contrived and insincere. It appeared as though someone had handed him a script , did not have time to memorize it and could be seen reading. He seemed to be disconnected . Lori F. at no time was I ever implying anything about his his ethnicity! The whole situation just had a weird feel to it. I love my accent, sort of soft southern. Stop looking for what’s not there!
Lori-
Don’t you think they make a really attractive family? His wife is so pretty and the kid is sooo cute!!
Do you have issues with his race? He looks like a American man of East Indian decent to me with a LA accent!
I suppose you had issues with Sarah Palin’s accent as well?
Ok am I the only one who thought his southern drawl wasnt so bad. The sound of his voice wasn’t bad but the speech and how he addressed it, was bad. I had to change the channel b/c I felt like I was back in school and was being lectured to.
If they are wanting their names out there for a Presidental run, so be it. Why can’t they?
Jindal is East Indian and public speaking is not his strong point. He comes across very well one to one though and I do like him. He needs some more experience swimming with the sharks.
What is with little Miss McCain? Dislikes being out of the spotlight does she?
