Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Blames 'White People' | 03/27/2009 11:30 am

Brazilian President: Global Financial Crisis the Fault of 'White People With Blue Eyes' (Video)

By The Staff at wowOwow.com

"White people with blue eyes" are to blame for the world crisis, says the president of Brazil.

Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva’s comment yesterday not only made British Prime Minister Gordon Brown uncomfortable as he stood next to the Brazilian leader, but has others thinking, "He said what?!"

Speaking just days before next week’s G20 summit, The Guardian reports, Lula ranted about globalization, said the poor are even poorer, thanks to the acts of the rich, and added: "This crisis was caused by no black man or woman or by no indigenous person or by no poor person … This crisis was fostered and boosted by irrational behavior of some people that are white, blue-eyed. Before the crisis they looked like they knew everything about economics, and they have demonstrated they know nothing about economics."

After being asked to clarify his remarks, Lula said, "I only record what I see in the press. I am not acquainted with a single black banker."

Lula and Brown both called for the world’s biggest economies to provide $100 billion to boost global trade. Sky News says Lulu’s "white people" comments made for an "uncomfortable" moment for Brown. "The president does not mind using fairly flamboyant language. He likes to give extensive answers to journalists," Sky News said. "But some of it was rather awkward for the prime minister, who was standing there listening to the president. A few eyebrows will have gone up at what he said."

Lulu’s tirade also has some crying racism.

"It never ceases to amaze me that this kind of anti-white racism is considered perfectly normal in civilized company. If Lula would have been white and blamed ‘long-nosed, brown-eyed Jews’ for the crisis, he would have been shot down. But racism directed at whites? Ah, no problem," says one blog.

Poor Gordon Brown - he will likely have second thoughts about making any more visits to other countries after his Brazil and U.S. trips!

Racism of any kind is revolting. That racism against whites would be anywhere near acceptable cannot be justified.

Financial Crisis the Fault of ‘White People With Blue Eyes’

Now there’s an intelligent assessment.  It’s all in the eye color.  How can you negotiate with that…  and who would want to.

If Lula would have been white…

Portuguese people are considered white where I come from…  some even have blue eyes.

Oh please.  Dude wants a bailout… from WHOM!?  The blue-eyed white devil that he says created the mess!

Maybe Lula is just plain LOONY.

nanchan:  Maybe Lula is just plain LOONY.

His photo makes him appear to be past his sell date…  maybe that’s the problem.

In country’s like Brazil, the political "elite" often try to make populist accusations to divert attention from their own culpability.  If one were to  look at the racial composition of the American investor class  and the politicians who benefit from their largesse, one would likely find a racial diversity that gives lie to Lula’s accusations.

Deber, you are right about that…just as there are those here in America divert the attention by crying Bush, Bush, Bush. Then they spend, spend, spend.

Um, isn’t the president of Citibank an Indian named Vicram Pandit.

I suppose we should get ready for the slings & arrows …. the brilliant  derivative market did start here.

Brazil is not innocent! It has racism! country! The wealth, political power and professional jobs are held by the white population. Poor people and those of a darker hue live in poverty. You can live well in Brazil if you have money regardless of your skins hue. Lulu spoke from emotion and facts as he saw them. I have not seen persons of a darker hue flying to Washington in private jets begging for money and getting multi-million dollar bonuses. The images seen in the media are that of wealthy whites! His remarks are not racist! Stop looking for racism where’s theres none! It takes courage to go against the mob!

His remarks were indefencible and blatantly RACIST. That was THE text book racist remark of the year so far.

He was pandering to the majority in order create favor…with a lie. Nothing new here, politics at work. There is nothing at all courageous about envoking class envy or racism to manipulate the "have nots". It is cowardly and indecent, not to mention insulting to the intelligence of the poor.

As happened here in  the last American election for President , class envy and racial lines were highlighted to garner support.

As a white, blue-eyed, blond….I kind of get a kick out of Lula da Silva…and I don’t think he’s looney, but he could be more accurate. Old, fat, greedy, mostly white Wall Street guys, and some of their compatriots in the US Senate. Chiefly, Sandy Weil, former CEO of Citigroup and Phil Graham.
