Bristol Palin, the daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will join forces with the Candie’s Foundation this week to help fight teen pregnancy.

Ms. Palin’s duties begin on Friday, when she’ll appear in New York and speak with teens about the "dangers of teen pregnancy," according to a press release sent out by the Foundation. Commenting on her alliance, 18-year old Palin, who gave birth to her first child last December, remarked:
I am so happy to have this opportunity to work with The Candie’s Foundation on spreading the message of teen pregnancy prevention. I feel that I could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy. If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment.
The Candie’s Foundation’s founder, Neil Cole, said in the press release, "Teen pregnancy is an epidemic. It is staggering that almost 750,000 American teens will become pregnant this year. With Bristol’s participation, we hope to reach million of teens with our message of teen pregnancy prevention."

Go for it, Bristol.

I think this is great — Bristol is obviously bright and it would be great if others could learn from her experience.

I had my first child when I was 19 — I was out of school and married, and still, having a baby that young was tough.

Fortunately, for Bristol, she had a strong, loving family to rally around her and her beautiful baby to keep them safe and healthy.    Many pregnant teenagers do not.

I admire young Bristol for wanting to make a difference.     Let’s see how fast this thread morphs into a Sarah Palin thread.

If you saw this on CNN, you’d laugh at how quickly it did. Almost as soon as it was posted, it was a Sarah Palin bashing session there. :P

Good for Bristol!  She is a gorgeous girl who will get her life together and do great things. she has a child to worry about, obviously without a lot of support from the father’s side. If she were my daughter, my message would be:  "Put on your big girl panties and deal with it"!

Good for her!  I just hope her message will reach many teens.. both boys and girls.  With  Ann Shoket also involved, the message will be heartfelt.

Best wishes to her (and Candies) for addressing this issue…but I have to add…

A Bristol Palin thread?  For those days that a Sarah Palin thread just won’t do?  I am waiting (with baited breath) for a First Grade Tell All (with crayon pictorials) on that little Piper Palin…heaven only knows what secrets she carries in her Jonas Brothers’ backpack…

Mary:  Piper Palin

Piper is a sweetheart.  I used to look forward to the times Sarah Palin would have her family on stage so I could watch Piper upstage her.  Piper loved being next to her mother and tugging at her.  Her mother’s child in looks and personality.

Good for Bristol.   Much effort is needed in preventing teenage pregnancies.  The Wow site I tries to present subjects of interest.  I think this is a good one.  Bristol had  a high profile teen pregnancy.  She is someone other teens will listen to.

I believe this is a good way to reduce  abortions.

Ah, Starry Night, my friend, at last we agree on something! Great post. I have always believed that the way to "stop" abortions was to deal with the issue before there is a pregnancy.

And please let me add to this post, if I may, Thanks to all of you who have expressed your condolences on the loss of my son on some of the other blogs. This site may get contentious at times (Ok a lot of times LOL) but you all seem like people who genuinely care about our country and our fellow citizens. I stumbled across this website when Dear Margo left Yahoo and came here and I have enjoyed the interaction and entertainment!

RIGHT ON! How about, comprehensive sex ed? Plan B available to all women? Teaching girls how to be wonderful women with self esteem? Mom will probably have a heart attack, but good for Bristol. This is a fight that we can all be on the same side of!

I just hope that Bristol will not find herself in the line of fire that says: Who does she think she is. She’s got a baby and it’s going "ok" for her. There is nothing easy about being pregnant or having a child before you’re in your 20’s at least. I hope the audience she will be speaking to will pay close attention to what she has to say. It’s vital that kids get their priorities straight, stay in school, get that high school diploma, onto college and become full adults before they take on the full time responsibilty of parenting.

Hopefully this time Bristol will ba able to speak without being cut off by Sarah. I feel for her. She didn’t request a high profile life.

Come on, SG, no kid ever "requests" it — nor did Sarah do anything more than any other national level politician (introduce and be proud of her kids), including Obama, Biden, McCain, etc. Our media and leftist nutjob bloggers * ahem * took it upon themselves to drag her through the mud.
