Bush Extended Secret Service for Daughters

Like a good father, George W. Bush worries about his twin daughters’ safety.
That’s why, on January 16, 2009, just four days before leaving office, the former president signed an executive order extending secret service protection for Barbara and Jenna Bush, the former first daughters who are now 27 years old. Bush isn’t the first president to ask the elite security detail to keep an eye on his children: Bill Clinton broke with tradition when, in 2001, he asked secret service to keep tabs on his then-20-year-old daughter, Chelsea.
Still, it does seem a bit extreme for tax-funded security to tail girls who are well into adulthood. But, then again, it’s most likely necessary considering Mr. Bush’s standing in the States after he left office.
The White House would not say how long the girls will receive protection. The decision to continue protection was revealed when a secret service van tailing Jenna Bush was towed for accumulating six parking tickets, CBS reports. Let’s just hope that tab doesn’t end up on Uncle Sam’s bill as well.
