Candice Bergen Doubts We'll Ever Have 'An Old White Guy Ticket Again'

Candice Bergen
God. I would hope. Dontcha’ think? Isn’t Obama transforming the country forever? Or could it all revert? But I doubt we’ll ever have such an old-white-guy ticket again.

That’s kind of discriminatory thinking, in my view. You kind of slapped white men and older people with one cuff there.

James would you rather the question be  "Will the Bush/Cheney presidential ticket be the last of self serving, hypocritical men capable of causing distress to the entire American population and the downward spiral of the economy?".

yes, that would’ve been more accurate.

James, I am with you all the way on this one.  I certainly want everyone to have a level playing field.  And, hopefully, we have accomplished that.  But if two "old" white guys happen to be the very best candidates, that’s who I want.  I don’t think in terms of having the requisite number of women, minorities or whatever.  I think that kind of thinking can be counterproductive.

All negative thinking is counterproductive!

Deena, I’ve been told that some readers interpreted the question to mean, Would it be good to do with the "old boy" network in politics? Of course, the answer to that would be "yes". Of course, that’s not what the question asked, but it may’ve been a little vague, so I’ll give them some slack.

Candice is living proof that PC is made for the simple minded. Obama is "transforming" things alright…only thing is, the majority (although slight) of the American people do not approve of that transformation.

To say that an Afro-American, an Asian, a woman…would be better, is to put into place the very same inequity that she is disapproving of. …But…how PC of you Candice…silly, but very PC….so very Hollywood.

Hopefully, Americans will abandon this ridiculous trend of being PC  and vote for the most qualified…no matter how white, black or otherwise.

If not, then I suggest a genetically engineered candidate that has equal parts of every race available to mankind. Then, they should be virtually exposed to every situation that each of these races MAY experience. Then maybe…if there is time left, they could read our laws and decide to abide by the will of "the people."

You know "the people" as in humans, American humans… not white, or black or otherwise.

Get a grip Candice…maybe all over 50 actresses should be only of ethnic origins…no more "old white has beens" on the big screen…because we all know that ethnic actresses are so much more in touch with being over 50 and a female than any older white woman is….

Let’s get rid of Streep and all of her ilk… what do they know about acting anyway….

Let’s face it…you just can’t fix stupid or those that are awash in the La la land of the Hollywood elitists.

Right on Candice. Here in Australia it could be some time before a woman is a Prime Ministerial candidate. I hope not.

James look at it from the point of view of a Woman, it’s hard I know, but try.

Older while males have been incharge of this country, economy, military since the beginning of this country.  A lot of mistakes have been made that affected people of all race’s, religions, gender, and age.

Kennedy was a young President, and when he did good it was real good, but when he screw up, it was.  Obama is also a young President and he needs the chance to show how he will do, what his progams will accomplish and what his mistakes will be.  Because "everyone" makes mistakes, it’s just a matter of time, and how we react to them.

As a white female republican I didn’t vote my ticket this last time,  since  the very time I voted in 1977.  And I only missed one election due to health reasons, even when I was stationed away from NY State I still voted for my local representatives back home, because they were the ones who would represent me while I served my country.

No I agree with Candice, we need a change, not just one but many, and I will always give everyone their voice to be heard, and opinion to be stated. And then I will make MY own decision based on the facts.

Deniseann, it’s still discriminatory, no matter how you slice it. You mean that Clinton/Gore didn’t help improve the economy? Kennedy/Johnson, etcetera? I was rooting for Hillary Clinton up until she dropped out of the primary race last summer. But it wasn’t because she was a woman. Rather, because of what she stood for. That’s the key distinction. Perhaps a woman could give us a fresh perspective on things in office, no doubt. But that’s not the point. The point is, it’s not right to lump in all white, old men with the likes of Bush/Cheney, and similar buffoons.

James I agree with you on some points.  Being a white, anglo saxon Catholic (not by choice) as a kid, it was the old white men in buffalo that ruled, and all I saw and experienced that was bad was at their hands.

In the military it was the white guys that chased the females and held back promotions if you weren’t nice, (and this happened to many many women), some of us opted to tell them to kiss off and wait until we got transfered to put in for promtion.

I’m sorry but my experience with older white males has not been all that great.  And I pray that just maybe Pres. Obama (not to sure the vice pres will ever do anything good, he’s kind acts the fool at times) does better then those who got us in the situation were currently in.

I agree James…how ridiculous is this anyway?

That is what our representatives are here for…that is what an administration is for…diversity by the vote of the people and the appointment of the President.

This PC crap is killing us….
