Candice Bergen: Hope in Iran

Candice Bergen
The Iranian reaction to the election is very hopeful. It probably won’t alter the sham count but augurs well for real change. Especially since 70 percent of the country is under 30. What do I know but it seems like Obama handled it very shrewdly and with great restraint. McCain disagrees with this tactic but it seems very wise.

I agree that Obama has handled this well…..even though the GOP is trying to say he is not…..if Obama interferes…the whole world will react to his stepping into a situation that he does not belong in—-another country’s right to have thier own elelction.  I was reading some of the comments on an International paper—-the only one’s that are TRULY reporting on this event…and the comments included opinion that here in the USA, in 2000 and 2004, Bush did the same thing as Ahmedihan (sp) —-therefore we, the USA had no right to comment on Iran doing it too……these are interesting times….

The McCain comments give me opportunity to say "Thank the Lord he did not get elected to become our President"….

I agree.  Obama is handling things well.  Since when should we as a country tell another country how to run it’s business?  What I find fascinating is the use of the cell phones and internet to circumvent the government.  Power to the people!  If anyone should be concerned, I think it is the Iran government and the old boys who have no idea to communicate with the younger generation.  I see hope in the response of the citizens of Iran.  They want Change.  Where have we heard that before?  I just hope all the actions on both sides stay positive.

Iran’s civil unrest is just that - their own. While I am appalled at their violence, cover-ups, and flagrant constraints on the press, this is their country’s revolution. Just like our own Civil War, they, too, will evolve. It will just take time.

I think Pres. Obama is handling the recent world event in a calm and neutral manner. We must handle issues like this with much restraint and complete dispassion. U.S.A.  often gets involved in other sovereign nations internal affairs that most of the time gets us into quagmire like Iraq. Then, we have to pour in billions of dollars to install their own government. We always fix other country’s internal problems but not our own. When Americans are hurting with uemployment, hunger, illnesses, foreclosures, I do not see other countries come to our rescue.

Iran has an Ayatollah who could make the rulings for his people.

We, Americans has more pressing problems here in our homeland. Pres. Obama should focus his attention into our own affairs more intently and get our economy growing and defeat all the unemployment, foreclosures

and other lingering vestiges of recession. Pres. Obama, we elected you to take care of Americans first and foremost.

Since we paid for the destruction of the process in Iran in 1954 by the CIA, it is pretty much high time we stayed out of their process.

First I am grateful Obama used diplomacy in his speech. All the people who are wanting to throw their support in the news behind the protesters may as well sign a death warrantfor them.Don’t get me wrong I support the protesters doing what is right for their country. We need to keep a diplomatic tone.

I also think that President Obama is handling the events in Iran in a measured, intelligent fashion. I pray for safety and success for the brave people of Iran who are risking so much in order to have their voices heard.

Although circumstances and resources are remarkably different, I wonder if Iranians are experiencing much of the same emotions that people felt during the American Revolution.

I agree Candice, when it comes to sham counts in politics I have learned something interesting. If you take Election Results: and you rearrange the letters, it spells: Lies- Let’s Recount….. my prayers are with the protesters.
