CIA Sex Scandals Rock DC, But Some Warn Against 'Witch Hunt'

Sex may be a valuable tool in recruiting spies overseas, but those methods have gotten the CIA into some trouble.
Middle East CIA case officer Andrew Warren allegedly took informants to strip clubs, arranged trips to brothels and, according to two Algerian women, drugged and sexually assaulted them. Although he may be on his way out the door, The Washington Post reports that a couple of other sex scandals have arisen — one involving a top CIA officer pushing for his less-than-qualified mistress to get a job at the agency, and another involving an agency veteran using CIA credit cards to pay for hotel rooms and gifts for the lady he kept on the side. Needless to say, not only are these activities reprehensible, but some lawmakers wonder whether CIA chief Leon Panetta should do more to get his house in order.
"You want a culture that values innovation and creativity and doesn’t mind violating the laws of other countries, but at the same time, you want a culture of compliance and honesty," former CIA counsel A. John Radsan told the Post. "It is a built-in contradiction."
The allegations of rape aren’t good, of course, but could be especially damaging considering the news this week that one in three women in the U.S. military face sexual assault or rape on the job. Some say this is merely a case of a few gone bad, and that Panetta shouldn’t get caught up in a witch hunt.
"This country cannot afford to turn the CIA into a Boy Scout troop," former CIA field officer Robert Baer wrote on Time.com last month. "And there is a quick and easy fix to CIA staffing. Iraq and Afghanistan are grossly overstaffed with good, capable officers. These people are more than adequate to run the CIA’s posts around the world. Having so many people in Iraq and Afghanistan was a Bush White House decision. Cut back in those two countries by two-thirds and the CIA will do just fine."

Deber…and their children’s names also..
Panetta hasn’t completed reading his manuals on CIA activities 101. He brings no experience to this very important position. Such a shame.
DeBurca, as usual, you are welcome to your own opinions on this matter and others.
You may proceed…
How about making this not about one party or the other but the CIA itself? Not every article has to be about Dems v. Repubs.
