Crist Officially Announces Senate Run; Rubio Balks

All the speculation was right: Florida Gov. Charlie Crist announced today that he will run for Senate.

"I’m excited about the opportunity and I look forward to serving," Crist said, Fox News reports. "I want to serve where I can serve the people of my state the very best, and I believe that to be in the United States Senate."

Crist, a relatively moderate Republican, could face a tough primary battle against Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio, who suggested to Politico yesterday that Crist is not a true Republican: “If we’re offering the same thing as the Democrats, but with different packaging, what’s the point in having a Republican Party? I’m going to offer Floridians a clear, consistent, authentic small-government choice in the primary.” GOP fundraiser Ana Navarro echoed Rubio’s rhetoric. “Crist doesn’t represent a right-wing philosophy or a left-wing philosophy. He represents no philosophy."

Rubio and others are particularly upset over Crist’s support for President Obama’s stimulus package. Voters, however, will have the final say.

Well we will have to see what Rush has to say about this!! My bet is it won’t be good for Crist, so no republican backing coming his way.

Let’s see how far he gets with no backing of the GOP. Except for the panhandle, Fla is more like those purple mid-west states, anything can happen.

I hear the GOP is pushing "Lieutenant Dan" to run for something !

Instead of bashing Crist, the Republican party would be well advised to embrace and support him. From the little I know of Charlie Crist he is indeed Republican, with conservative views. The problem for many in his party is he represents a "real" Republican and not the distorted vision of a republican that is making the news as of late.

Instead of turning a deaf ear to Michael Steel, Palin, Jindal, Limbaugh and others, it is those in their party like Crist that should be pushed out into the spotlight to put a new, embracive and fresh face on the Republican brand.

Belinda that would make too much sense for them. They are obviously on a clear path to destruction and the train doesn’t seem to have any brakes.

"I want to serve the peple of my state the very best, and I believe that to be in the United States Senate".

Such a profound statement Governor Crist!  If you serve us as well in the Senate as you have preformed as Governor, we will, hopefully look forward to a "complete" change in your personality and your governing ability.  So far, many of us from "your" state, just aren’t buying into your "serving us better".  Many of us realize that being elected Governor was just a stepping stone for your political career.  So, many of us, from your state have watched you waffle back and forth on issues that are important to "our" state.  The issues for which you so agressively campaigned for.  Many of us who voted for you voted for you because you were, we thought, the better of the candidates.  Now, we are having buyers remorse.

In your speech this morning you stated, "I will still fulfill my duties as Governor while I am campainging for the Senate".  How is that so Governor?  We will be entering the Hurricane season in a few weeks and I’m sure your mind will be elsewhere.  And, your attention span during the last season left many Floridians scratching their heads in dismay.  I can honsetly say that many Floridians, at this time, are truly disappointed in your Governing abilities.  If you are fortunate enough to win the Senate seat, many of us are wondering if you have the capability to handle your duties.  I, for one, will be voting for Marco Rubio.  He has been an outstanding Speaker of the House and a leader for the people of Florida in his political career.  Since I am an Independent I can also look at other candidates with a clear head.

So, Governor, I wish you luck in the Senate race - and, if you should win and move to Washington, don’t forget to take your tanning bed with you.

Alright Lady Gator!

There are other, newer, fresher faces that need to come forward. Out with old….make room for the new…

He’s making a play for down the road no doubt but if doesn’t past muster by his Masters Voice Limbaugh he may have to re-think that idea.   Just hope Crist won’t get on bended knee and say he’s sorry for even entertaining the thought if Limbaugh does rebuke the idea!!!

I really think that many of you give Limbaugh far too much credit!  Or maybe your remarks would be better stated on an "Older, white male audience:" on another site - since that appears to be his true audience.  I think it’s rather wasted on this site!
