Dana Perino Claims Bush Deserves Credit for Wall St. Rise (Video)

President Bush’s former press secretary Dana Perino may no longer work for Dubya, but she’s still defending him.

Appearing on C-SPAN’S Washington Journal this weekend, Perino admitted that the current recession does have roots in Bush’s administration, but he also had a role in the more recent Wall Street rise.

That’s right - according to Perino, Bush, who left office almost two months ago, deserves praise for an economic upturn that happened last week.

Said Perino:

You were just speaking earlier about the possibility that since we had a little bit of a better week on Wall Street does that spell a turnaround? Can all the credit go specifically to President Obama? Well, I would say no. We are just going to have to take a while to let all of this settle down and let the policies that our administration and the new administration are trying to put in place have a chance to work.

Perino isn’t the only former Bush administration official who’s defending the former President. Vice-president Dick Cheney told CNN this weekend that President Obama "inherited" problems, but it’s not all their fault, "There’s no question that the economic circumstances that [Obama] inherited are difficult ones. I don’t think you can blame the Bush administration for the creation of those circumstances."

With this suck-up interview — sounds like she’s trying her best to find some gig.   =)

You got a point there, Z…but, she’s young, cute, articulate and blond; I don’t think she will have any trouble finding work.

Perhaps the supply of young, cute, blonde, and articulate is higher than the demand these days.  =)

Diana, please learn of the history behind all this before you say anything.

It was Clinton-era Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros who urged Fannie Mae to spend 42 percent of its money buying mortgages for lower-income people and who suggested that they no longer require down payments. And it was his successor, Andrew Cuomo, who upped the ante to 50 percent of the Fannie Mae portfolio.

After Democrats inveigled people to buy homes they could not afford, how can they justify passing a plan that excludes them from assistance?

It appears that Obama is at sea when it comes to financial policy, economic-recovery planning, and credit-rescue efforts.

We’re stuck not only with a socialist but seemingly an incompetent one.

I am better informed than most on history.

Just because you have a habit of generalized name calling doesn’t mean your facts are accurate.

Lori:  We’re stuck not only with a socialist but seemingly an incompetent one.

That line always brings a chuckle.  I think after this downturn settles itself out in 2009, the stimulus bill will kick in in 2010.

deber b —So many people saying she should find a job.  Maybe she should have been "retained" by the Obama Administration as Press Secretary.  She certainly is hands down better than that - uh, you know, uh, well uh —Gibbs!

She is a very bright young lady and would make a strong and effective Press Secretary for the Obama administration.   I have to believe that she has charted her career path by now.   Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Lady G….gibbs makes a fool of himself everytime he speaks in front of the camera…if I was obama, I’d be looking for a new press secretary…this guy is a joke….and it’s pretty low for a press secretary to bash the previous VP….that really shows a lot of class!!!  obama’s staff is just a circus….

What..is she still on the Bush payroll to try to spin positivity into the "Bush Presidency?" Get on with your life Ms. Perino, let Pres. Bush’s legacy sort itself out.

Why are these people still talking?!

Since when do former press secretaries get interviewed 8 weeks after their boss is out of office? Perino… this recession started in 2007 and the bubble burst in Sept 2008. The GOP has been trying to blame the recession on Clinton and even OBAMA… now they want to take credit when things look like they may be turning around. It’s not only ridiculous and shameful, it almost makes me embarrassed for them. Dana, you are not employed by the American people anymore so go get a job on FOX where your blonde hair and simplistic right wing view of the world will fit right in.

Then there is Cheney on the talk show circuit too. Note to President Obama, this is why these people need to go to prison where they belong, because they are not content to nearly destroy this country and leave. They will not shut up.

I remember after the Clinton administration was over and Bush was appointed president by the Supreme Court… all the talk about will Clinton be able to keep his mouth shut about what the new president is doing and how the protocol of former presidents  is to keep quiet. Doesn’t that count for former Vice President Darth Vader and former press secretary Perino? SHUT UP
