Fallen Female Patriots: A wowOwow Salute to 116 Military Heroes
As Memorial Day weekend comes again, it's time to honor those lost in combat. With the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan still raging, it is the female heroes of those two conflicts to which wOw pays our respects today.
As we said last year in our first "Fallen Patriots" salute, no matter where you come down on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no debate about our country’s devotion and gratitude to the men and women who have lost their lives in service to America.
This year, we again pay solemn tribute to 116 ultimate "wOw" women -- the 116 female members of the U.S. Military who have lost their lives since the onset of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our hearts go out to their families and friends, and we stand humbled by and proud of a nation and a culture able to produce daughters so brave and so honorable. The price of breaking the glass ceiling in the area of combat comes with heartbreaking consequences.
According to the Military Times and their 'Honor the Fallen' website, six additional American servicewomen have given their lives in these two conflicts over the past year, bringing the total to 116. Those who have fallen this year are:
Air Force Tech Sgt Jackie L. Larsen
Army Pfc Jennifer Cole
Army Spc Cwislyn K. Walter
Army Sgt Simone A. Robinson
Army Spc Jessica Y. Sarandrea
Navy Lt Florence B. Choe
Their names and pictures, along with all 116 Fallen Female Patriots can be found in the photo essays below:

Thanks for reminding us that this weekend is far more than hot dogs and potato salad.
Very touching. Thank you.
I have an uncle that served in the Korean War, a family friend who was a medic in the Viet Nam War and a cousin who (the son of the Korean War Vet), who served 2 tours, One in the Desert Storm conflict and most recently before retirement served in Afghanistan. And a couple other relatives who served. So I am all for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. :)
Thank you WOWOWOW for providing this information.
Today I shall walk up the hill a few blocks to the old cemetery. I’ll bring my garden roses and find the fenced in WW1 heroes resting there. They gave freedom to my mother and grandparents. Then I search for the WW2 graves as I know for sure they gave me a life worth living.
I will go to my grave saying "thank you" to these heroes.
To add all these great women makes me weep.
