If this woman is convicted of this crime I would hope that she would not receive the death penalty.  I would hope that her cell would have non-stop television coverage of that darling child skipping across the street, anxious to play in a home where all were trusted.

How much more sicker is this world going to get? It is an outrage! Dear sweet Melissa, you will get your justice. I am heartbroken for you, beautiful child of God.  Only evil knows what will be next because evil won in this case. :.(

This goes beyond mental health.  Frannie Em I agree I could not be more shocked.  With all this medication available and little monitoring, I think sometimes it controls the beast until the beast makes a mistake.  That is why we need  more controlled insitutions for the mentally ill with people that just can’t make it out in the real world.  Instead we  keep closing them down and put these people back on the streets.

 

I may be crazy yet this same exact murder occurred in Tracy

 somewhere around 1990…I mean at least a like, kind murder.  

I’m getting very strong memory recalls—dejavu—that this has happened before.

Any chance this might be linked to a serial murderer??

There seems to be a trend in Tracy. Local murderers are unsing those ponds to dispose of  their victims.

I do not know about her, but the accused killer might be experiencing s testosetrone rush, or could have been taking black mollies, or an ephedrin drug that tripped her out. 

 

IMO, the woman must have muted the child prior to murder. 

One needs to understand that if the child had been allowed to plead, cry, or scream, then the murderer’s "mother" instincts would have ‘kicked-in’ and she would have likely ceased & realized she was being crazy.

No one knows what the victim died from.  It took lots of energy to carry a suitcase to the pond, indicating the female suspect murderer could have been on a stimulant.  It’s a lot of work for a woman—heavy lifting.  It’s always best to train children to make noise when they feel threatened. 

Where did the suspect mother leave her child during the act?  Autopsies will tell it all.   Frankly I feel that the murderer was raised by an idiot mother & father, and they are directly responsible for raising this muderous woman. 

 

Well if she did it,

and it’s proven w/o doubt,

and even if she confesses,

she will not get the death sentence

because she has a child.

This is so stupid, that this woman would do this,

it’s obviously an act of rage,

the question is, who & what enraged her?

What made her feel helpless to have to commit a rage murder?

We need to hear who she interfaced with, and what taunted

her into doing such an aggressive act.

Really, not willing to read this story, much less the comments (no offense, but … ). The woman’s obvious seriously ill, insane, most likely been horrifically abused so let’s let LE handle this, and not stir up more misery. The family needs love, and support.

Yep this is a murder scenario I’ve seen before in the Tracy area,

this must be a serial cult killing, just too much similarity,

this will be the second child.

As Melissa Huckaby’s family tries to come to grips with the fact that the woman they knew as a devoted mother may have killed 8-year-old Sandra Cantu, CBS News saysthe child had been killed at the very church in which Huckaby taught Sunday school.

I’m sorry, but the tone of this whole story just irks the hell out of me.  Why are publications and new media spending time on the sympathy and concern of the accused when the real victim is the 8 year old girl who was murdered.  In every news media story, the entire focus has been on Melissa Huckaby….what a sad sad world we live in when the accused gains more sympathy than the innocent child that was murdered.  My heart does not go out to the Huckaby family, it goes out to the Cantu family who will never be able to replace what was taken from them.

Despite whether or not Melissa Huckaby was "depressed" or whether or not she was a "loving mother" is of no consequences….I could care less about her life.  How about a story that details the life of such an innocent child.  Maybe if people understood the victim and media stopped sensationalizing the killer’s side of the story, there would be less of this type of misery. 

 

The biggest shock in this terrible tragedy is that it was perpitrated by a woman. I nearly fell over when the news was made public. As someone has previously mentioned, the devil IS out and about these days trying, and in some cases,suceeding in getting his way. I don’t think America can afford to just turn a blind eye to the troubles that assail us every day. Prayer and watchfulmess is required and prayer and watchfulmess  is the only answer.
