Feinstein Seeks Investigation on NSA Surveillance

We told you heads were going to roll over the latest wiretapping news. And Sen. Dianne Feinstein is leading the way.

The chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee says she will look into The New York Times report this week that the National Security Agency was involved in "over collection" of e-mail and telephone surveillance data in the United States.

"These are serious allegations, and we will make sure we get the facts," Feinstein, D-CA, said in a statement. “The committee is looking into this, and we will hold a hearing on this subject within one month."

Meanwhile, the NSA news has caused some civil libertarians to renew their call to restore old protections in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

"It was a classic I-told-you-so moment," Washington ACLU Director Caroline Fredrickson told The Washington Independent. "So many protections in FISA were dismantled by the FISA Amendments Act. We predicted this would happen."

i really don’t know what the uproar is all about.  In my 37 years of employment with the US Government, I always assumed they listened or at least taped our overseas and maybe even domestic conversations.  We were always told to be very careful what we said on the phone.  This was over a 37 year period!  People need to take their head out of the sand.

This needs to be done if only to clear the air about surveillance of the public.  Sttikes me a highly unconstitutional what the NSA did.

I am with you Senator Feinstein! FISA can function just fine with the old rules and if we have learned ANYTHING these last few years, it is that regulations are extremely important! This is why I became a card carrying member of the ACLU during the Bush years.

As long as we don’t take the NSA off government workers and put them on all the "dangerous right wingers" (aka people who don’t agree with Obama) then I agree with Feinstein!  But the winds are already blowing in that direction and it’s not good.

SJ…exactly correct.  Do I hear a "double standard" here?  Of course, no surprise at all!  I agree with you 100%.
