First Dog Bo Obama to Be 'Commander in Leash'

By The Staff at wowOwow.com
Image via Mascot Books

Bo Obama, the first family’s new puppy, will soon star in a new children’s book, Bo, America’s Commander in Leash.

Penned by Naren Aryal and published by Mascot Books, the 25-page adventure follows Bo as he scampers around the garden, plays on the swings and flies in the president’s helicopter. Oh, and he also puts on high-tops to play basketball with Barack Obama. Man’s best friend, indeed!

We won’t tell you any more than that, because we don’t want to ruin the excitement. USA Today, however, has more details on the plot.

We will say, however, that it ends happily.

Kelly, would you get a mutt for your child who has allergies? Most of us would not.

Secondly, this dog is on its 4th home in 6 mos. so perhaps you can relax, maybe they saved him from "death".

They adopted a dog like this one because one of their children is allergic. I’m sure some of you have had to acquire animals which will not aggravate your allergies. No outrage needed where someone’s health is involved, especially one of the children’s. Why don’t you lay off?

Thank you for the article, Andrea. I had heard something to that effect (that there were no animals who were hypoallergenic) sometime in the past, but since I don’t have allergies to them, I guess I put it out of my mind. As for the Obamas, I’m sure they did their very best at choosing a dog which was close to being hypoallergenic due to Sasha’s needs. According to the article, those animals that get groomed the most will probably have cleaner skin, shed less etc., so maybe that’s how those dogs stay nearer to being hypoallergenic. I hope the Obamas chose the right dog. I leave it to them to have decided best. What kind of dog is it in your avatar? It’s cute.

yes its trust there is no totally hypoallergenic dog but there are breeds that have less pet dander.  Thankfully my daughter isnt allergic to our dogs but very allergic to cats.

There are breeds that do shed less dander, that’s true. But it’s incorrect to assume that ALL dogs [or cats] of that breed will shed less dander.

I am allegic to dogs but love them so much but I deal with the discomfort. And you know what? For me, over time, my body learned to tolerate it.

I am not sure if this is a book I’ll buy, where do the proceeds go?  The Obama’s dont need anymore money, now if the proceeds would go to the ASPCA that would be a different story, I would buy it.

I doubt the president would get money for this, but I have to ask, if you like a book for your child do you always check to see if the author already has more money than you would like him/her to have before you buy the book?

I never said the President would get money but they are the owners of the dog so any proceeds would be in their court as rightful owners of Bo, unless they signed a waiver giving the author of the book full benefits and rewards…I just said wouldnt it be nice if the proceeds went to the ASPCA to help all the dogs/cats currently in shelters.

That was quick!  The dog on the cover is even drawn with the little lei around it’s neck.  Oh, well…my guess is the proceeds will go to charity.  I think it’s cute.

Sometimes this presidency reminds me of a State Fair.
