Former First Lady Barbara Bush 'Alert and Funny' After Open-Heart Surgery

Former First Lady Barbara Bush remains "alert and funny" after her open-heart surgery on Wednesday, aides say. Bush, 83, was on the operating table at a Houston hospital for two-and-a-half hours as doctors replaced her aortic valve, ABC News reports.
The wife of former President George H.W. Bush and mother of former President George W. Bush, is expected to make a full recovery and should be discharged in the next 7 to 10 days. Former President George H.W. Bush was with his wife, and in a statement said he is "impressed and grateful to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses … who have helped Barbara."
The former First Lady reportedly scheduled the operation after experiencing shortness of breath.
