Carly Fiorina Gets New Gig After Breast Cancer Battle

Carly Fiorina isn’t going to let her battle with breast cancer keep her down!
The former Hewlett-Packard CEO has been named chair of the Technology Policy Institute’s (TPI) board of directors. TPI is a Washington-based think tank that focuses on major issues affecting information technology and communication policy. No doubt Fiorina’s past experience with HP during the dot-com boom and bust — and at AT&T and Lucent Technologies — was very attractive to TPI.
Fiorina, who was a surrogate for John McCain during last year’s election, said she’s "honored" to join TPI. "These are unprecedented times. Thoughtful and pragmatic technology policies can drive our economy forward, help us successfully address our nation’s challenges in issues ranging from health care to education and enhance America’s competitiveness," she said.Fiorina’s latest gig comes just weeks after she underwent breast-cancer surgery. Diagnosed last month, she is said to have an "excellent prognosis for a full recovery." The health scare isn’t expected to keep Fiorina from her possible 2010 senatorial campaign in California. She’s already starting to sound like a candidate, despite not yet officially declaring her intention to run. A recent Rasmussen poll found that incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA, leads California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger by 16 points in a Senate matchup, 50 percent to 34 percent, but holds a slightly smaller lead over Fiorina — 47 percent to 38 percent.

Whatever the outcome of a cancer diagnosis, it’s a life changing event. I imagine you never take a day for granted anymore. Good luck to Carly in her bid for the Senate, she’s a plucky gal.
