Gingrich Replaces Embattled Palin at GOP Dinner

It’s only Wednesday, but we’re guessing this week will be a total bust for Sarah Palin.
First and foremost, her former running mate, John McCain, refused to say on Sunday whether he would endorse her in a possible 2012 presidential race. The senator said he’ll first have to survey all of the candidates before making a decision, which is certainly the political thing to say, but also implicitly indicates that he doesn’t have much faith in the Alaska governor.
As if that weren’t enough, some of Palin’s constituents — and liberals across America — are angry that she picked Wayne Anthony Ross to be her state’s next attorney general. Why are people so angry? Well, it could have something to do with the fact that Ross referred to gays and lesbians as "degenerates." Lovely. Also, native Alaskans are angry over what they call Ross’s anti-rural policies and hope to derail his nomination.
All of that drama has been pretty contained, however, especially when compared to this: the Republican party disinvited Palin from their biggest fundraising dinner and replaced her with — wait for it — former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Palin’s team insists she had never confirmed her attendance at the event, which takes place June 8, but a press release sent out in March said the governor was the keynote speaker. Apparently things have changed, because the organizing committee yesterday said they had "decided to go in another direction." Ouch.

I’m sensing her time in the limelight is fading, McCains remarks the other day didn’t help.
But I don’t see Newt, the scolding professor, Gingrich as the replacement.
(MQ-C hangs head low) ‘Ya beat me.’ First post!
Politically, it might be best for Gov. Palin to take this opportunity to wash her hands (for the time being) of the RINO crowd that can’t seemingly run even a banquet and concentrate on Alaska. She doesn’t need the infighting and snipping that apparently is going on. Michael Steele has his hands full with this crowd.
Oh boy!!! I get to be first!!! Any guesses on the ‘over/under’ count of how many Palin Derangement Syndrome (PDS) posts get pulled; and how quickly THIS thread goes over 100…compared to the one discussing the riots/chaos in London, at the G20.
When all else fails…turn to the Alaskan Governor to distract and polarize. What I question is they replaced Gov. Palin, with Newt Gingrich…like he is not a controversial, lightening rod himself. What are they thinking? Maybe time to cancel again.
Couldn’t disagree with you more, caj p! I’m more of the opinion lately that Sarah Palin, because the media destroyed her, should take some time off and concentrate on her beautiful and productive state of Alaska. She IS doing a very good job there. I realize there are left wing articles that dispute this but that’s their job….to continue to smear her name.
I believe the republican party knows they have to change some things and they are working diligently to put the right candidates before America before 2012. Certainly the elections in 2010 will be important to 2012.
I also am of the opinion that it may be far easier in 2012 to elect a republican after four years of Obama socialism policies. I could be wrong, but I cannot imagine that the "core" of America, our middle class, will tolerate the New World Order mindset of this particular administration.
Time will tell.
Another sad chapter in the victimization of Sarah Palin. It’s just amazing how everyone is out to get her: the GOP, Democrats, Newt, John McCain, even the GOP Alaska Senate president called her a liar last week. Poor Sarah. All these groups out to "destroy" her.
No, not John McCain. He spoke last Sunday and I watched it in its entirety.
The left wing media was out to destroy her. The democrats had to discredit her because she was more qualified than their own Barack Obama to run for President! It simply did not work out for her. Now you have Obama in the White House. Try to feel good about that!
I hope Sarah Palin takes the time off to regroup.
The president of our country should be able to communicate with us without depending on someone else’s words. You don’t depend on Glenn Beck, Hannity or ORielly to run this country, so it doesn’t really matter if Beck is afraid of letting his own thoughts out, without a filter.
Oh, and Reagan, McCain, etc., could exist without a teleprompter. That’s why Obama’s been criticized for using his teleprompter much more than any other president (like, when answering questions, etc.). Most presidents use them for major speeches, etc.; not for every word that comes out of their mouths…
You’re flat wrong about Reagan. Like Obama, he used a teleprompter for speeches and, like Obama, he spoke extemporaneously at news conferences and press avails. Reagan was better at it than his predecessors because of his experience doing television ads for cigarettes and the like, and because teleprompter technology improved in the 1980s.
And you omitted Bush who is simply a terrible speaker and had to have a briefing book on the lectern that contained every word that came of his mouth — you know the book he’d angrily flip through as he rattled through Rove’s talking points. And who can forget the mysterious little box he had under the back of his suit during the debates with Kerry. Apparently someone had to feed his lines to him.
Obama is more articulate sound asleep than Bush is at his most alert.
