Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will soon announce that he’s running for the U.S. Senate, several sources say.

Crist, a 52-year-old Republican, has become one of the Republican Party’s more moderate members, particularly when it comes to Barack Obama, whom Crist has supported since Inauguration, and has especially supported the stimulus package. If he chooses to throw his hat in the ring, Crist will run against Marco Rubio in the primary, but CNN reports that most voters say they’ll push for Crist.

Crist, who may make the announcement as early as next Monday, may face some trouble coming out of the Cineplex: a new movie entitled "Outrage!" claims Crist is gay. He married his wife, Carole Rome, last year. In fact, CNN reports she’s been telling her friends her husband’s going to run for Senate.

A ‘moderate’ Republican?? Oh the poor guy, if he is, he’ll be skewered by the Rush Limbaugh Party.

I hope that he is a moderate republican. I think that Congress could use more “moderation”.

His views on various subjects are all over the place. I’m all for an all inclusive politician who isn’t mentally stagnant, but with Crist, I can’t tell what his true stand is on any one subject. But I will say this, during the presidential campaign he did a good acting job of supporting McCain, but I never brought it. It was an is comforting now that the race is over and a winner has been declared, to see him shift allegiance.

I haven’t heard much of anything about Gov. Crist.  I’ll have to watch for news of him.  The GOP has gone off the rails - the country needs a better balanced Republican Party in order to regain homeostasis.  If he is one of the good guys I wish him well.

… an afterthought.

It is none of my business what anyone’s sexual preference/practices are as long as informed consent is adhered to.  I will say, however, that if Gov. Crist is gay and is pushing homophobic legislation I hope that he will become enlightened or get out of politics.

Charlie seems okay.  He has some ambitious ideas regarding environment in Florida, and the Senate could use some ambitious ideas.  He doesn’t adhere to that rigid ideological thinking of the Republican Party.  He doesn’t obsess about social issues like a recent VP candidate. And, Olympia Snowe might welcome his company.

Crist needs to come into the Dem fold and then I would vote for him, he seems to lean more that way than to the Rep side of things.

"Crist needs to come into the Dem fold and then I would vote for him, he seems to lean more that way than to the Rep side of things."

Wow, that speaks volumes, caj. You say you would vote for this man, with only one change: his party. Not a position on some issue or anything like that, but his party. Therefore, you must agree with his policies, or at least enough to vote for him (minus the party thing)…and yet you wouldn’t vote for someone with whom you agree based on party? Sad…really sad. No wonder politics is such a mess in this country, when people base their vote on party allegiance!

As a Republican who votes Democrat when a Democrat is the better candidate, let me just say that I hope you rethink your stance, caj…it’s not supposed to be about party loyalty, but the United States. If a candidate is good for this country, his or her party membership shouldn’t matter.

Why would I vote for any Rep when I don’t agree with their policies or their mind set?  If I was not sure of how I feel I would vote Ind to start with?

You stated that you would vote for him, if only he switched his party to democrat — indicating that you don’t have any problems with his policies, but won’t vote him because of his party affiliation.

He would have to be a Dem thinker and not have the Rep party mindset or why even change party in the first place!

Well, you seem to think he already leans that way:

"he seems to lean more that way than to the Rep side of things."
