Hillary Clinton: 'It's Outrageous' Taliban Would Kidnap American Soldier; Says U.S. Working to Free Him (Video)

The United States will do everything it can to rescue an American soldier captured in Afghanistan, Hillary Clinton said today, adding that "it’s outrageous" that the Taliban would engage in kidnapping.
Video of captured Private Bowe Bergdahl, 23, of Idaho aired on YouTube over the weekend. He is shown in traditional Afghan dress, being prompted by his captors to call for U.S. forces to be withdrawn from Afghanistan. Dressed in a gray robe, Bergdahl appears nervous and scared, and occasionally chokes back tears as he tells his captors he is scared and wants to see his family. He was captured late last month.
"We are attempting to do everything we can to locate him and free him," Clinton, who is in India, said in an interview aired on ABC’s "Good Morning America" on Monday. "It’s a real sign of desperation and inappropriate criminal behavior on the parts of these terrorist groups, so we are going to do everything we can to get him." In Bergdahl’s hometown of Hailey, ID, yellow ribbons, candles in the window and signs in his honor are everywhere as support for his family spreads across the country. "They’re clearly shaken," family friend Sue Martin told "Good Morning America" of the Bergdahls. "It’s a struggle for everybody. I think they’re doing as well as can be expected."
Clinton has a busy schedule today. She gave a speech in New Delhi, during which she had some good things to say about India’s progress in the world.
Clinton also visited with some poor female weavers, visited a "green" building and met with business leaders. The big event will be later today, when she joins Indian officials to announce a pact allowing the sale of sophisticated U.S. arms to India. Clinton’s already gotten a few off-topic questions about her failed run for the presidency against Barack Obama.
"I feel grateful that I had the experience that I’ve had," she said. "I don’t look back."

Thanks to W. and the water-boarding and all the illegal activities how will we proceed.I am hoping this young man makes it home alive. We should bring all troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq. We have no place there under any administration.
S G ….are you kidding here? Obama is asking for 20,000 MORE troops…the .American death toll in Afganhistan is up to the highest at the worst of Iraq….and Hilliary is "outraged"? How stupid is she?
No she is VERY stupid and so is the mindset that thinks these extremists give one damn what we do, waterboarding or othewise. They could give a rats a$$ about the Geneve convention. They are not an army to beging with….get that? They do not comply, nor should they benefit from such agreements.
They CUT off HEADS…they DON’T CARE ABOUT WATERBOARDING….what an absolutely ridiculous assumption. Those extremists only understand or respect strength. PERIOD.
Better face it, the hero Obama is NOT bringing troops home NOPE…he is sending MORE.
And better face that these blood thirsty extremists want ALL AMERICANS dead….just because their religion demands it. Nothing more…
Martha…should we tell her how that quote really goes?
"I will not engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person"….geezzzzzzzz they can’t even get that right…. ;]
I don’t know why Madam Secretary would be surprised or outraged at anything the Taliban does. They’re not exactly a group of Boy Scouts.
If we are going to send our young men and women to that hell hole, I just hope we give them the very best arms and defense and leadership this country has to offer.
My prayers are with that young man and his loved ones.
I fear for this young man’s life because many prisoners are executed. This young man seems fatigued and most likely tortured. He seems mentally broken. Our soldiers are trained in waterboarding. They know they aren’t going to die from it. However, there are far worse methods than waterboarding used by these people to get a solider to talk. Back in 2006, several soldiers were taken in Iraq by Iranians who were carrying American weapons, wearing American uniforms and driving an American SUV. None of them lived. This could’ve happened to this young man. Information is limited so we will have to wait and hear more.
I HATE videos like this. Because although I could never imagine the level of fear these captives are experiencing, when it comes to them being videotaped, I can however imagine the emotions that are running through their minds in terms of how what they say, how they appear, may be construed by those watching it in the U.S. That has to weigh heavy on their minds, how could it not.
Am I being viewed as a traitor to my country?
If I say this or that will I be viewed as weak?
How do I say what they want me to say while still being true to my troop, family and country?
The pain he must be grappling with emotionally is ridiculous.
What we have to remind ourselves is that the Taliban is not a government sponsored organization. They are not a part of Afghanistan, they are a rouge militia. No different that the KKK or the skinheads of the U.S. if they were to take a Middle Easterner hostage (not that they ever would) and make demands on Iraq or Afghanistan. They could have killed Private Bergdahl right after they stopped taping. And then what? These are not people we can negotiate with, so the process of rescuing him is something we all know will lead to chaos. This will not be a case as with the Caribbean pirates we overtook.
I love the fact that Secretary Clinton has vowed for the U.S. to do all it can to rescue Private Bergdahl. But I must admit, as those holding the private have instructed him to say, we do indeed need to leave Afghanistan. No more of our soldiers should be there to be put in harms way or possibly kidnapped by lunatics out to make a point. So although I don’t agree with anything else they have to say, on this thought, I agree.
