Jane Wagner and the Gekko 'Greed Is Good' Gene

Jane Wagner

Alas, the human condition is in the condition it is in mainly because of the corruption of power. Sadly, it seems we humans are genetically encoded with the “Greed is Good” Gekko gene.

Just think what we could be if we had the drive to attain power, not for selfish reasons, but for all the good we could do with it.

I believe there are some of us left who look beyond ourselves. I think it over the past 20 years has become a greed oriented  but I think when you allow a television to raise your children you get what you get. Sadly though so do the rest of us.

"Just think what we could be if we had the drive to attain power, not for selfish reasons, but for all the good we could do with it." Jane, I think many people start out to be public servants and end up being "politicians" because of the structure of our system being so dependent on vast quantities of money to even get "hired."  I think one thing that could be done is to ban all political advertising and reclaim the public airwaves (and they do belong to the public) to use for legitimate public debates, not this Madison Avenue slogan/mislead crap we’re forcefed now.

Greed—the human condition:  Judas, the Roman Empire, King Midas, Christopher Columbus, Hitler, Japan in WWII, Apartheid in South Africa, Imdela Marcos, Bernie Ebbers of World Com,  Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling of Enron, the war in Iraq, the AIG scandal, Bernie Madoff, Wall Street, today’s mortgage crisis, the American economy …

Greed is what has ruined this country that’s for sure.   Wall Street, Health Insurance Companies, Drug Companies to name a few and many people in the private sector as well who are never satisfied with what they have they always have to have more.   Nothing wrong with having  money if you have worked hard for it but when it becomes an obsession and it over takes your life that is where it becomes too much.

Josie,

Thanks for the link to http://www.fearlesscreativity.blogspot.com. I’ll start this day with the Golden Rule as my mantra. I’ve always believed in the Golden Rule, but it’s been years since I’ve actually said those words out loud. My goal is not to leave my house again without saying those words as I go through the door to the world outside.

Yea!!!!! Alice. If that post brought you that idea….I am honored to have found it.

I have been playing it when i get up with coffee and when I go to bed.

Everytime I listen to it, I realign my intentions.

Many thanks!

My dear Ms Jane:  So happy to see your picture again - I will be happy to "purr you back" anytime.  I agree with you and the others who feel the world could do very well with a lot less greed and a lot more sharing.
