Joe Biden Discusses Dick Cheney, Gaffes and His Son on '60 Minutes' (Video)

Joe Biden on 60 Minutes

Vice-President Joe Biden sat down with wOw woman Lesley Stahl on 60 Minutes this weekend, and, of course, had to address his reputation for putting his foot in his mouth.

Stahl asked the former Senator if he was nervous for the interview, the lawmaker replied, "It’s not you I’m afraid of. It’s me!!" Biden certainly wasn’t joking when the conversation turned to his son, who is currently serving in Iraq. Stahl inquired as to whether Biden worried about his offspring’s safety, to which the vice-president remarked, "The way I deal with it, I don’t think about it that way. I’m proud of him. He’s a good man."

We’re not sure whether Biden thinks former vice-president Dick Cheney is a good man, but Biden definitely doesn’t agree with his predecessors’ constant criticism of the new administration, which Mr. Cheney has described as weak and a threat to national security. Cheney also claims Obama apologizes too much. Said Biden on Cheney:

Look, I don’t know anybody in the world who thinks this guy’s a weak president, number one. Number two, I don’t know what he’s apologized for. For example, saying we should close Guantanamo is not an apology. That’s not an apology saying we’re  fundamental — we don’t engage in torture. He didn’t go out and say, ‘Oh, my God, the fact that the last administration did these things — we’re so sorry.’ He did say — he just said, ‘We don’t do torture any more.’

As for how Obama thinks of Biden, he told Stahl,  "You know, Joe’s not afraid to tell me what he thinks. And that’s exactly what I need, and exactly what I want."

I love Joe Biden. He’s direct and doesn’t pull any punches! BTW, he just arrived at O’Hare a few minutes ago and is on his way to a speaking engagement at the Chicago Global Cities Forum.

Speaking of the first 100 days… on McLaughlin Group yesterday, everyone (except one), including Pat Buchanan gave President an "A" for the first 100 days. The one who gave him a "B+", Eleanor, the Liberal!

I enjoyed the interview.  I’m glad Joe addressed the " apology" issue.  Shaking a hand and expressing a desire for greater global communication is hardly an apology.

During the campaign, 73% of Americans felt they would feel safe if Joe Biden had to step into the Presidency.  I agree.  Joe may be garrulous  and spontaneous, but that certainly doesn’t mean he is incompetent.

Joe is okay, and his wife is lovely.

Obama doesn’t make his own decisions.   He doesn’t have the experience to run a state much less a country.   He has to demand on the people he has surrounded himself with to tell him what to say and do.   Joe Biden, if he had to step in as President, would have to take the same advice.    Thank God.

Obama uses ADVISORS, REAL advisors, not frat buddies, real experts in their fields, and he lets them talk, and he listens, and then he makes educated decisions, not ‘gut feeling decisions’ with frat buddies around him telling him what he wants to hear… this is called "Leadership" and thank God we have a true leader in the White House during this time of extreme crisis.

Funny, but when Cheney was acting VP he seemed to be the Invisible Man, hiding out all of the time. You seldom  heard from him or saw him. Now he is vocally all over the place, tearing down the new administration. This is never done by the past administrations, especially the VP, at the start of a new administration. It tells a lot about the character of this man. At least Bush knows how to behave. Leslie’s interview was outstanding. Biden has as much experience as past vice-presidents…if you can remember back that far, and I’m talking waaay back.

Exactly, Lizzie……….it is absolutely amazing how much we see of Dick Chaney now that he doesn’t have all those "presidential decisions" to make.   =)

I didn’t watch the show, so I cannot comment here….I at least admit it compared to posters who bash other tv and radio stations that they do not listen to…..I will be fair here.  Just sayin’!!!
