Is John Edwards the Daddy? Maury Povich Wants to DNA Test Rielle Hunter's Child (Audio)

Elizabeth Edwards says love for John is ‘a complicated question’

Maury Povich wants to find out who Rielle Hunter’s baby’s daddy is and determine once and for all whether it’s John Edwards.

The talk-show host told Politico he wants to invite Edwards and Hunter to come on his show to find out whether the former senator impregnated his one-time staffer. "I would love to have the two of them on my show. We’d even do the testing for free," Povich said in a podcast.

Edwards’s wife, Elizabeth, even tells Oprah Winfrey on Thursday’s show that she has "no idea" whether her husband is the father of Hunter’s baby, but it’s definitely one of Washington’s hottest guessing games right now. One thing she told Oprah was that she’s not sure she’s over her philandering husband.

"You know, that’s a complicated question," Mrs. Edwards says when asked whether she’s still in love with her husband. "Neither one of us is out the door so I guess it’s day by day, but maybe it’s month by month." Mrs. Edwards also said she had asked her husband for one gift when they were married 31 years ago: to be faithful.

"It was enormously important to me," she said.

Thank you, Patty, for injecting some common sense into this conversation about matters that are none of our business.  The guy’s political career is washed up; there is no reason for us to know the particulars of this family mess.  What possible difference does it make in the grand scheme of things whether or not we know if the baby is his?  And, Maury Povich?  Please….he is being an opportunist here.

Of course Maury Povich would like to have them on his show.  What a ratings bonanza that would be.  Hope the child can grow up without cameras following the Hunter baby.  And, yes, they should all shut up about the baby and John should just fade into the background and they should all shut up.

These people need to go away.  Really.

Edward is being (rightfully) investigated for possible campaign funding improprieties and outright fraud (channeling ca$h to the gf as hush money?).  Hunter, apparently can’t be a single mom w/o at least a five digit monthly palimony check (ever hear of being a working mom, hon?) and Elizabeth…well she has a book to sell.  Not questioning EE’s motivations here, but your health is failing quickly…spend quality time (while you have it) with your kids…not Oprah and a book tour.

The whole bunch needs to slither back to the pages of the Enquirer.  And take Povich with them…

I think it’s wonderful that Elizabeth is speaking out on this subject and especially that she has chosen Oprah to do so. However it was disappointing to watch/hear a clip this morning in which she takes a slight jab at Rielle as it relates to whether John is indeed the father. She fell into the trap we as women far too often do, snip and snipe at the "other woman" when the anger and resentment belongs and should be directed at the person who betrayed us and hurt us, our spouse or significant other.

Rielle could have flirted and seduced John until the cows came home, strutted around naked in front of him, but it was HE and only HE who had control over his emotions and zipper.

I could not have said it better, thanks Belinda.  Somehow the men in these situations get a pass while the women swipe at each other.

Take this "low rent" topic and file it under Jerry Springer….pleez.

Unless I missed something all this is about is Maury Povich saying he would like to have Edwards and his mistress on to check the DNA… nothing about it actually even being a possibility. This is a non-issue and a non-event.

I’m certainly no Edwards fan but this is none of Maury’s frick’n business!

I do find some irony in that the Libs just want this to go away but continue to harrass the Palin family….

I cried for two days when I found out that John Edwards was cheating on poor terminally ill, cancer stricken wife Elizabeth.

When he said, "I began my presidential campaign here to remind the country that we, as citizens and as a government, have a moral responsibility to each other…"

I just felt like the world was coming to an end!

How was my family going to get free health care?

Who was going to get all that money back from Halliburton?

Who was going to fight for the little people who can’t find a job?

Who will keep my gas tank filled with cheap gas?

Martha - "Moral responsibility to each other"   - what a hoot.  If I were Elizabeth I would put that phrase on a plaque and hang it over his bed in his bedroom.

Who will tell us about the "Two Americas"?  I loved that one!

Wonder if John has color on his hair - perhaps the toxicity made its way to his brain

"Two Americas" — John was living those "Two Americas" - His private life and his public life.

And, Elizabeth, with her "tell all" book just sunk his ship.  He’ll have to go back to chasing ambulances.

Don’t understand how Elizabeth could stay married to a man and not ‘know’ how many children he has.

I don’t believe that John Edwards doesn’t know if he’s the father of the child. Is it really such a stretch to think he says whatever he can to cover his butt? After all, Elizabeth knew of the affair before he even ran. But for some reason they thought it wouldn’t come out. Politician’s will say whatever they need to publicly; that doesn’t mean it’s the truth. I can understand if EE doesn’t want to disclose the paternity of the child; she has her children to think of & it’s actually not for her to say. I can’t say that I would have stayed with someone that betrayed me so personally & publicly but I haven’t walked in her shoes. Whatever she decides, I wish her only the best. He, on the other hand, should stand up & be a man.

Forgive typos & spelling but I’m watching Oprah and hearing about children hanging themselves and saying what kind of world will my two grandsons face.

I’ll probably get completely vilified for this, but I’m going to say it anyway:  adultery is a lot more common than most people know.  I know this not only from research, but also from personal experience.  Frankly, I think it would behoove all those who think they’re on the "moral highground" and like expressing their outrage over these situations  ("Well, that would never happen to ME … because I and my husband are perfect.") to keep their mouths shut.  You simply never know.  It could happen to you.
