John Edwards Affair, Investigation | 04/09/2009 10:45 am

John Edwards' Ex-Mistress Worried Over Grand Jury, Says National Enquirer

John Edwards may be in a bind.

The former North Carolina senator and presidential aspirant is being investigated by a federal grand jury for possible campaign-finance violations related to money he gave his former mistress and campaign worker, Rielle Hunter. Well, apparently Hunter’s worried and wonders just what other dirty laundry may come out, particularly since four ex-Edwards campaign workers were reportedly subpoenaed to testify. And the National Enquirer reports that Edwards himself called Hunter, who the tabloid says is the mother of his illegitimate child, to calm her fears.

"Rielle is extremely concerned about being called to testify. She’s a nervous wreck. But John has told her, ‘You didn’t do anything wrong, so you have nothing to worry about,’" a source told the tab.

Hunter received money from Fred Baron, Edwards’s former national finance chairman, and apparently worries the feds will look into whether she paid taxes on that money – which she reportedly did not.

More details on the investigation are so far hard to come by. That’s surprising, since it’s such a juicy story. The Enquirer seems to be the only one trying to stay on top of it!

And she’s worried because she didn’t pay taxes on the money.

Instead of investigating Edwards, the federal grand jury should look into Obama’s campaign funding and how that was spent.  Now that would be a can of worms worth opening up.

Good idea if they also open up McCain/Palin’s campaign funding and how it was spent. My name and small contributions of $5, $10, $15 or maybe even $25 will be on Obama’s list.

As for John Edwards… I hate with a passion what he did, mainly because I think the world of his wife. There’s no happy answer to me about that situation.

Marjorie — At least she’s worried because she didn’t pay taxes on the money — We have a few people in this administration who can tell her "it was an honest mistake".  LOL

John Edwards is now considered tabloid news.   Marjorie C has a valid point in that Obama’s campaign funds left a paper trail.   Where is it?

The Obama campaign filed the same reports with the FEC as every other candidate. The wallowing in these dire conspiracies by conservatives on this board is a real hoot.

What’s this conspiracy theory — that al Qaeda, the right wing religious terror group, secretly funded the presidential campaign of Obama, who you believe to be both a liberal socialist and a right wing fascist — even though al Qaeda wants to replace all secular governments, including both socialism and fascism, with theocracies?

At least there’s no time travel for al Qaeda involved in this one.

And you Dems thought the Palin campaign clothes issue was a problem (lol)..

Except for how Elizabeth feels about it, this is no concern whatsoever to Dems. I, for one, never liked the guy. I hope he spends the rest of his life doing good works in atonement, but his political career is as over — just like Sarah Palin’s.

I have the greatest respect for John and Elizabeth Edwards, and

I wish them and their children health and happiness.

Gee I thought this thread was about Edwards "mistress", but of course we have the same drones link it to the current administration- six degrees thing, I guess. Anyway, STICKING to the topic… all I can add is "oh, the tangled web we weave…." The decisions you make today, determine your tomorrow- both she and Edwards should have thought of that years ago. Now they have consequences to face. Unfortunately so do the unknowing innocent such as Elizabeth and the children.

I thought the same thing Dee. And like you, I know the decisions we make today, determine our tomorrow.  That applies to everybody.
