Laura Ingraham Guest Host Tammy Bruce Calls Michelle Obama 'Trash' (Audio)

Talk about a low blow.

Filling in for conservative talk-show host Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce blasted First Lady Michelle Obama for comments she made during a visit to a Washington D.C. classroom last week. During that visit, the first lady recalled trying to get good grades as neighborhood kids criticized her for "talking like a white girl." In light of those remarks, Bruce made fun of Obama for her use of a "weird, fake accent," much "like Hillary did when talking to black people. What?! What is that?"

"That’s what he’s [Barack] married to," Bruce said. "…You know what we’ve got? We’ve got trash in the White House. Trash is a thing that is colorblind, it can cross all eco-socionomic, kind of a, categories. You can work on Wall Street, or you can work at the Wal-Mart. Trash, are people who use other people to get things, who patronize others, who consider you bitter and clingy."

Bruce, who describes herself as an "openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted for President Bush authentic feminist," hosts the nationally syndicated "Tammy Bruce Show," flagshipped at KABC Radio in Los Angeles. Last spring, Bruce took some flak for suggesting that Sen. Hillary Clinton suffers from "mythomania … part of a larger psychiatric scheme of people who make up fantastic stories to bolster their own image." Bruce also claimed that Clinton had said daughter Chelsea was "at the World Trade Center on September 11th," even though Clinton never said that.

Needless to say, Bruce’s comments about Michelle O. aren’t being received too highly across the blogosphere. "Today, I bring you Tammy Bruce, who must be at least a sophomore in the Ann Coulter School of Bigotry," says one post on Talking Points Memo.  "I knew Bruce was kinda nuts, but clearly she’s aced Coulter’s introductory classes."

You know…it’s so bogus for people to talk about "putting things in children’s minds."  I’ve been black all of my life…and I don’t get blacks folk, unless they’re trying to get picked up by a conservative cable TV show or get on CNN as the next black face to talk against the Obama’s.

When you grow up poor and minority in this country, no one needs to put that idea in your head…It’s a fact! And verytime a minority or black child takes  an exam…like the SAT, etc…the first thing they have to do is list their race. And what federal form have you filled out recently that didn’t ask for your ethnincity?

It’s has been proven that college graduated taking the GMAT score at least twenty points lower on the test when asked to supply their race…because as everyone knows: "blacks aren’t competitive academically!" I wonder why? And by the way, for those of you who can’t recognize a rhetorical question, it was.

Just as surly as people in this country have very little idea and much less desire to know people from the darker continents, so too are the same people who don’t want to know about the darker people who lare Americans and live in this country.

The only people worse off in America than minorities: poor whites! No one even talks about them and that is a tragedy!

DC—I went back and read some of your previous posts.  I understand now.  You are on the "still angry about slavery" kick.

No wonder you like Michelle.  You are 2 peas in a pod.

Sorry, dear, but its time to get over that.  You personally were not brought here to be a slave.  You may have ancestors that were, just like white people today are not slave owners, although if their family actually goes that faar back and was of the plantation class in the South, then they might have a relative way back when that owned a slave.

Here’s the bottom line.  Slavery is over, and its not an excuse to trot out to defend certain behaviors, blacks don’t need reparations, its not a tool to get sympathy votes or manipulate people with through grievance politics, and NO ONE is a slave or a slave owner any more.

You really bring the rest of us down when you act like that.  Grievance politics further divides.  Only when we are accepted for our achievements will we be equal and constantly reminding people that you have a grudge against them because blacks were once slaves hinders that.  I want to be seen as me, just me, not who my ancestors were, and I don’t expect to be treated any different or handed anything because slavery once existed.

I don’t want sympathy because my ancestors might have been slaves, and I sure as heck don’t blame any white people who might have a slaveowner in their family tree.  We’re all people.  I see nothing but people, and when they see me, I want them to see nothing but a person, and that is why I can’t stand Michelle and Barry’s race baiting, and I can’t stand yours.  Please, for the rest of us, knock it off.

And don’t come on here and call anyone a racist, because its tired, its old, and the only person on here concerned with anyone’s race seems to be you.

Indie, this is a little off topic, but similar in theory and spirit. I have a unique family tree; and I took a class to try and figure out how to do the research. One interesting aside from the geneologist. No matter what dates/history you find you make the people you descended from what you want them to be. If you want to find inspiration, you will. Same with blame. And, that was a really insightful post…thanks for adding it Indie.

Indie,

and that is why I can’t stand Michelle and Barry’s race baiting, and I can’t stand yours.  Please, for the rest of us, knock it off.

I never saw President or Mrs. Obama do any race baiting and I don’t see DC doing any either. DC had a right to express him/herself just as you do.

Er - I hate to butt in but …

Thanks for the link to some of the video C. Aune - I almost choked when I saw MSNBC because that is a very biased news!  Anyway here is what I found out - Michelle did not pick these students. The faculty and school administration did. Each of these students overcame some sort of adversity and are trying to achieve.

I guess the staff of that school either could not find a ‘white’ kid who might be as thrilled as the rest of them about meeting the first lady or thought it would probably not be important enough to them.  Probably none of them lived in poor families though they may have attended the same school which meant they lived in the same area right?

I would like to know if this was done at the request of the White House or if the school made that decision on their own?  Regardless I think when you watch the tape and hear the whole of what she is saying it comes across better than it was reported however if she is going to be the first lady for all of us then she needs to make sure the groups (no matter who or what age) that she is addressing is inclusive of everyone.

My family never owned slaves …. never had segregation in Canada but I lived through the Martin Luther King era and watch with pride as America started growing up. I did not - not vote for Obama because he is ‘black’ gang - I did not vote for him because I had deep concerns about his experience but I do pray every day that he is successful!

See what a difference research can make, LOL,  We can chase our tails and argue but come on folks, let’s at least make ourselves informed before we speak!

As far as who chose the kids…if the high achievers in the school are all AA kids maybe it will make some of the others kick it into high gear so they too can get perks like meeting the first lady?

-Indie…What can I do besides shake my head at you.

-First, You should be angry at slavery and any other act that has occurred against a minority group. (ie women, gays, etc) It should make you angry enough to try and contribute a change in your community or possibly country. If you don’t understand what I am trying to say I will break it down for you:You should take your anger and turn into a positive by helping others. Whether it is volunteering, or being able to listen to someone who’s story is overlooked by the broader scope..that’s what you should do. Thus I am not angry, I am productive. Thank you.

-Second: How dare you even insinuate that you don’t want to follow in the PROUD LEGACY your ancestors have put before you? There is nothing to be ashamed about being black. You have intelligent, gifted, creative, responsible, and classy ancestors who fought for you even to be able to sit at a restaurant and eat with people of different races. How dare you disgrace their names. For shame you!!

Third: No one is asking for sympathy. I am asking for respect. The trash comment that was made towards the First Lady was racist. You have to call a spade…a spade! This woman is full of hate..she doesn’t even know Michelle Obama and she called her trash? How does one even harbor that much hate? I’m going to pray for her.

Fourth: I never asked for reparations. The Obamas never "race baited." In fact, some blacks were upset because they did not make race more of an issue during the campaign. So I do not understand where you get that theory from.

Fifth: think it is sad that as a Black woman you don’t acknowledge that your ancestors have had a hard (to say the least) past. It is up to us to carry our legacy and be proud of it. Whether you like the Obamas or not does not concern me.What worries me, is that you hate yourself soo much that you cannot even imagine the thought of racism existing or being proud of your ancestors. I can sit on this post and talk all night long, however no matter what I say or do, your ignorance of who you are still prevails and that really does break my heart. I apologize for whatever has happen during your lifetime because it has really made you angry, bitter, and ill spirited.

Jesus Take The Wheel!

For the Michelle Obama detractors, GET OVER YOURSELVES. There is nothing wrong in reminding children of any color that it is good to be well spoken and that can only happen when you appreciate the education that is being offered. Tammy Bruce is playing to her audience. I’ve never heard of her and hope I don’t again. Michelle Obama is a breath of fresh air IMHO. I’m proud that she is my First Lady and will do all that I can to support her efforts. I dont’t see "trash" I see CLASS.

Why is it when Rachel Maddow, who describes herself as an "openly gay, get praise from the WOW writers but when Tammy Bruce who even better looking than Maddow is the same gay female she is a negative bad figure to this same bunch of females from WoW?

Lori,

See, you say it doesn’t matter to you how people LOOK, but then you go and mention which lesbian is "even better looking"… It doesn’t matter who’s better looking. It matters that Rachel Maddow has class and that evidently Tammy Bruce does not or she would not say such ignorant things. I’m glad you agree that Bruce’s use of the word "trash" was very ill-advised.
