Laura Ingraham Guest Host Tammy Bruce Calls Michelle Obama 'Trash' (Audio)

Talk about a low blow.

Filling in for conservative talk-show host Laura Ingraham, Tammy Bruce blasted First Lady Michelle Obama for comments she made during a visit to a Washington D.C. classroom last week. During that visit, the first lady recalled trying to get good grades as neighborhood kids criticized her for "talking like a white girl." In light of those remarks, Bruce made fun of Obama for her use of a "weird, fake accent," much "like Hillary did when talking to black people. What?! What is that?"

"That’s what he’s [Barack] married to," Bruce said. "…You know what we’ve got? We’ve got trash in the White House. Trash is a thing that is colorblind, it can cross all eco-socionomic, kind of a, categories. You can work on Wall Street, or you can work at the Wal-Mart. Trash, are people who use other people to get things, who patronize others, who consider you bitter and clingy."

Bruce, who describes herself as an "openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted for President Bush authentic feminist," hosts the nationally syndicated "Tammy Bruce Show," flagshipped at KABC Radio in Los Angeles. Last spring, Bruce took some flak for suggesting that Sen. Hillary Clinton suffers from "mythomania … part of a larger psychiatric scheme of people who make up fantastic stories to bolster their own image." Bruce also claimed that Clinton had said daughter Chelsea was "at the World Trade Center on September 11th," even though Clinton never said that.

Needless to say, Bruce’s comments about Michelle O. aren’t being received too highly across the blogosphere. "Today, I bring you Tammy Bruce, who must be at least a sophomore in the Ann Coulter School of Bigotry," says one post on Talking Points Memo.  "I knew Bruce was kinda nuts, but clearly she’s aced Coulter’s introductory classes."

Historically, African-Americans who pursue education and speak correctly are often accused of trying to be white! This is a racist statement! If you’re black it’s an ignorant statement! How is she suppose to speak? How is she a phony?  First Lady Michelle Obama told these young people not to fall into this trap! She used herself as an example! Imagine if this accomplished , intelligent  and articulate woman had listened to these fools? I wonder what these fools are doing today? It’s always lesser accomplished, articulate and intelligent women who attack First Lady Obama! Pathetic jealous inconsequential women. Bruce, you’re sad and pathetic and looking for attention! You are not fit to kisss the soles of First Lady Obama’s shoes! First Lady Obama is a class act!  Mediocrity Always Attacks Excellence!!!!

I was not going to join in this fray, especially after reading yesterday’s thread in which it was completely sabotaged by ignorant rantings and ravings that went on and on. Listening to the voice of this Tammy Bruce made my skin crawl. Not only is her tenor like a screeching owl, her criticism of Michelle was what I would call a trashing––hateful and malignant. Reading your post, L.C. gave me some hope that intelligence has not been completely eradicated on this thread. Thank you for putting things in perspective.

phyllis Doyle Pepe- like you I didn’t want to jump into this until you voiced what I was thinking.  I happen to be a Jewish woman married to (and happily for 24 years) a Black man.  My grand children call me Bubbie.  Bri my granddaughter comes to house everyday after school due to parents work schedules.  She plays with the little girl next door.  One day this last fall she came running in the house all upset.  The source of her 5 year old tears was a comment made by her friend about the word Bubbie.  After the tears dried I took Bri in the kitchen to make a cake.  As we were mixing it I had Bri look for the lumps and stir them out.  I also explained to her not to let what people say out of hate or ignorance put lumps in her cake of life.  Just mix them in and learn from them.  After the cake was finished we invited the little girl over for a piece of non lumpy cake.  So Mrs Obama and the rest of us should mix these lumps of Tammy Bruce into our cake of life and not let it put a sour taste into it.

so whay did her husband cut funding for education of those very kids…to be able to attend schools like his daughters?

Reporting from Washington — Congress is poised to do away with one of former President George W. Bush’s signature initiatives in education: the taxpayer-funded vouchers that enable students from low-income families in the District of Columbia to attend private schools.

About 1,700 children in kindergarten through 12th grade receive the $7,500 annual scholarships. Four times as many apply.

FOR THE RECORD:
School vouchers: The headline on an article in Wednesday’s Section A about school vouchers in Washington, D.C., said the vouchers were going to "lose funding." In fact, as the article said, a provision in a spending bill headed for President Obama’s desk said that no funds would be appropriated for the program after the 2009-10 school year unless Congress reauthorized it and the District of Columbia Council approved it. —

Because school vouchers are inherently unfair to those who do not get them. Either allow every child to go to a private school on the taxpayers dime, or none.

It’s about fairness

Obama went to a private high school in Hawaii on a private scholarship  ….is that not the same as a voucher?  His children attended a private school in Chicago?

And, now a private school in Washington DC!

No, a voucher is not the same as a scholarship.  One is given by the school; the other is given by the government.

The fault here lies with the Sidwell Friends School, if there is fault.  The cost of tuition at that school is over $20,000 a year.  The voucher would not cover that; why didn’t the school award a scholarship.  Please print the remainder of the article as the missing portion may provide some valuable, rather than selective insight.  I interpret the information you’ve provided to mean that Congree has set forth this plan, which will remain until Congress adjusts it.

Peace and grace

Paula in the middle of America
I find Michelle obama to be an intelligent, strong woman.  I think her statement was correct and relavant.  Why all the hatred and disdain is aimed at her, I have no idea, but it makes me sad.  It is getting harder everyday to like ourselves as Americans.  I am proud of my country, proud of our new first lady, and proud that we have the right to speak our minds.  I just wish that everyone could work on being a little more constructive and less destructive.  Come on citizens….we are better than this.

Yes, Paula, as American we can do better and so can Michelle Obama.   She made an inappropriate statement to children.   I believe she knows that now.

Have you never told children a story based on your experience?

Oh please, the American people voted for the Obamas over more qualifed white people. If Michelle can’t see that and the fact that her comment to these young minds were a poor choice then her is not as intelligent as many think she is.

She is FLOTUS to all Americans!

over more qualifed (sic) white people.” How enlightening. The American people voted for President Obama because they did not think America could survive another republican administration. Nor did they consider the “white people” more qualified. Mrs. Obama’s remarks were quite appropriate. At +55%, African-Americans are not a minority in DC. And with 33% of DC residents functionally illiterate, these kids need all the academic encouragement they can get - as early as they can get it. That definitely includes aiming higher than the status quo! Tammy Bruce’s senseless rant only established that she herself is a trash talker.
