Laura Ingraham Labels Meghan McCain 'Plus-Sized' (Audio)

Meghan McCain has been making lots of enemies within the Republican Party. And Laura Ingraham certainly counts as one of them.

McCain, the 24-year-old daughter of former presidential candidate John McCain, grabbed headlines this week for taking on conservative author Ann Coulter, who McCain described as "offensive."

She kept up the attacks in a discussion with Rachel Maddow, when she intimated that Coulter’s comments make it difficult for the Republicans to court younger voters.

Well, none of this pleases radio host Laura Ingraham, who yesterday employed a Valley-girl voice to describe the 24-year-old McCain as "plus-sized." Here’s the transcript, via Think Progress:

OK, Meghan. Do you think that anyone would be talking to you if you weren’t kind of cute and you weren’t the daughter of John McCain? Or do you just think that they would just think that you were just another Valley girl gone awry?

OK, I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in the Real World, but then I realized that, well, they don’t like plus-sized models. They only like the women who look a certain way.

C’mon, Ingraham! McCain’s simply saying what she thinks about the party — no need to take on her weight, which, we think, is perfectly lovely. Now, ladies, can you kiss and make up?

As was said Meghan "picked a fight with somebody who’s definitely going to fight back".

I have to say … Meghan started the war.  What did she honestly think they were going to do…..abandon their Conservative Principles and agree with her>

Meghan..you jumped into this world of political commentary…..hope you can take it!

I don’t think Meghan has a problem with taking on her party — but tell me do you really think her size is relevant to the discussion?  Making a snarky comment about Meghan McCain’s physical appearance relegates Laura Ingraham to the level of icky valley girls. By degrading other women she frankly degrades herself.

I understand she now have a daughter — I fear for her future with Laura for a mother.

I mean — she now has a daughter!  I should proofread before I press submit!

Laura Ingraham is a miserable example of someone who was literally dumped by her fiancee, once he found out about her cancer diagnosis.  While we all felt sorry for her at the time, she still continues to be the same nasty negative person she was before the diagnosis.  It’s sad, she’s sad, she needs an personality intervention of sorts.  But in order to get better or change for the better, one must be willing to ask for or admit they need the help.  Unfortuantely Laura is incapable of doing this.  Laura should have never taken on the task of motherhood, she is also ill equipped in this department as well.  If she has more health issues in the future, who will care for your daughter, she has no husband.  I wonder how Ann Coulter feels about Laura’s adoption, with no husband.

Yes, she DID jump into the world of political commentary….and was rejoined by a fat joke. Is that all we in the GOP have left, are fat jokes?

I am constantly amazed at the depths women will go to when disagreeing with another woman. I am all for debating different points of view but can’t we stick to the subject? What in the world does Meghan McCain’s size have to do with what she was saying? I suppose LI didn’t have any better comeback to defend Ann Coulter than to attack her appearance. From the interviews I have seen of Meghan I can only say she is a lovely young woman who has the audacity to not only have beauty but, most importantly, brains. Maybe these "talking heads" should take a lesson from Meghan and put a little more substance behind their commentaries.

Laura is ALSO very firm in her convictions and some of Meghan’s comments have touched a raw nerve in the heart of other conservative woman.  IF she canot stand the heat she might want to get out of the kitchen.

How pathetic and catty it is for one woman to attack another woman’s weight, especially during a public political conversation (???!!!). It was unprofessional and juvenile at best. Grow up and get a life. This has nothing to do with someone’s "nerve getting touched". This was a schoolyard bully who has no better verbal retort than to say "I know you are but what am I?" How dare this woman demean plus sized women on her show…she is a disgrace for validating the stigma that you aren’t a worthy human being if you are not a size 2. Laura Ingraham should be ashamed of herself. She owes women in general an APOLOGY.

Debbie,

I couldn’t agree with you more. You cracked me up when you said,

This was a schoolyard bully who has no better verbal retort than to say "I know you are but what am I?"

I’ll be interested to see what Meghan’s mother Cindy has to say when she has a chance.

I don’t know that Meghan McCain has anymore substance. She says she’s Republican because of values, yet she’s progressive on social issues and admits to not understanding the economy. But then Democrats have their conservatives, so it gets mixed up on both sides.

What she does have is a different style that’s less toxic and not full of vitriol. Substance doesn’t go far if the tone of your delivery is running people off.

 Interesting…

…"Watching Meghan McCain attempt serious political analysis is like watching a toddler trying to force a square shape through a round hole.

She’s attempting to kill two birds with one stone: she’s getting even with those who criticized John McCain during the election by nipping at detractors and she’s trying to buy legitimacy the Bill O’Reilly way - by attacking the party that made her father. If it makes her sleep better at night to prostitute her soul in exchange for liberal adulation and a false sense of relevancy, more power to her. She is, after all, Daddy’s girl."

I’ll bet this will not sit well with her mother and father. Not nice to criticize McCain’s daughter. He does have a temper, and she was mean.

Its quite obvious Meghan McCain shares her father left lean views. For her to even go on the Maddow liberal minded show just to "dissed" conservative talkers like Ann and Laura shows she is not the be trusted and shows a lack of intelligence on her part!

Meghan McCain is a lite weight and needs to shut her pie hole!

Pie hole?  This is what the GOP has become.  If it wasn’t so hilarious, it would be tragic.

Hold it right there!  Aren’t you the one who said that it’s liberals who want to shut down and shut up everyone who disagrees with them?  And here you are, saying that Meghan McCain, because she disagrees with those you agree with, needs to shut up?  Why you sneaky closet liberal you!
