Limbaugh Attacks Obama Over Somali Pirate Shooting

National and military leaders have praised President Obama’s steadiness in handling the Somali pirate standoff last week, a standoff that ended with Navy snipers shooting three of American Capt. Richard Phillips’ teenaged captors.

While most people celebrated Obama’s authorization of the shooting, radio host Rush Limbaugh yesterday used the showdown to smear Mr. Obama’s name. Via Limbaugh’s website:

They were kids. The story is out, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but apparently the hijackers, these kids, the merchant marine organizers, Muslim kids, were upset, they wanted to just give the captain back and head home because they were running out of food, they were running out of fuel, they were surrounded by all these U.S. Navy ships, big ships, and they just wanted out of there.  That’s the story, but then when one of them put a gun to the back of the captain, Mr. Phillips, then bam, bam, bam.  There you have it, and three teenagers shot on the high seas at the order of President Obama.

Limbaugh went on to say he believes Obama wouldn’t have given the order had he known the boys were Muslim: "If only President Obama had known that the three Somali community organizers were actually young black Muslim teenagers, I’m sure he wouldn’t have given the order to shoot. That’s the correct way to look at it. If only Obama had known."

People don’t actually think that Limbaugh would ever support Obama in anything or any issue or any opinion.  That’s no news.

Limbaugh is just disappointed that our President handled this difficult situation so impeccably, when the Right was just frothing at the mouth in hopes that Obama’s handling of this international incident would be a failure. And, not that Rush has any credibility with the vast majority of Americans, the more he overplays his hand and criticizes every single thing done by this administration, the more ridiculous he becomes to all but his very extreme fans.

Sometimes I think the man is unhinged.  Why do they keep trying to discuss him over here?

There are so many more worthy commentators with something to actually ADD to the discussion and to our society… but just like the Octomom and Blagojevich get ‘reality’ shows, the over the top hacks get all the print.

The Bloated One froths at everything. Obama didn’t shoot the pirates; he gave the military to use force IF lives were in danger. The authorized THEM to use THEIR judgement in the field….which was the right thing to do.

IF President Obama HAD NOT AUTHORIZED the use of force if req’d, thus hamstringing the military options, and the Captain was hurt or killed, then Pork-Boy [in more ways than one] would have had apoplexy. The point isn’t for him to report news or offer legitimate opinion and commentary but to whip the wingnuts into a frenzy.

He is one sick piece of work and an example of why the Fairness Doctrine needs to be reinstated. He’s doing nothing but inciting malcontents to dangerous actions.

"when the Right was just frothing at the mouth in hopes that Obama’s handling of this international incident would be a failure."

Umm, deburca, as part of "the right", I was certainly NOT "frothing at the mouth" hoping "that Obama’s handling of this international incident would be a failure"! Not only were there (initially) lives, and then a life, at stake, but I fully understand the danger of allowing piracy to succeed; moreover, and most importantly, I do not want our country to make mistakes that will harm or reflect badly on us just because there’s a Democrat at the helm. It’s our country, too; we want the best for it. While I certainly don’t think that much of what Obama is doing *is* what’s best for this country, that does *not* mean that I don’t *want* the best for my country.

Ever since losing 8 and then 4 years ago, Democrats have worked themselves into a frenzy of hatred, where Republicans are  "evil" and "the enemy" out to ruin the world (you’ve only to look at some of the posts on this site to see the veracity of my observation). You folks gotta let go…this is America, and it’s how it works: you win some, you lose some. The rules aren’t there just to look good. This is our, "the Right’s", country too, and we’re not "the enemy" out to destroy the nation; we may disagree with the Left about the best path, but we want our country to succeed.

I think the news part is that rush did a 180 and didn’t express outrage that young, Black men held a White man hostage and dared to point a gun at him! Any other time rush would have gone ballistic and screamed for the president to do something about the lawless actions of these young men, he would have demanded they be punished! He would have been overjoyed that they were killed.

But he couldn’t do that this time, because the president IS BLACK! He couldn’t say anything that might be taken as support for President Obama. So he fakes concern.

Oh, and rush hates him. So he’d rather appear a fool and a hypocrite.

Even rush knows that most Somalians are Muslim anyway, so we know that part of his sympathy was fake.

What more can you expect from a man with a radio show so bad that he’s had to give it away free for years, just to stay on the air?

Have you EVER listened to Rush or have you just read snippets? Rush ALWAYS points out the absurdity by being absurd and this is a classic example.

Fiddlesticks!  Yes, I have listened to Rush.  Sorry, I beg to differ and can’t stand him or his egotistical rhetoric…

Why doesn’t this ridiculous jumping bean get back in his box and mail himself off to another planet.  He is one sick creature who really needs help as that one brain cell he has left is on it’s last legs.  Such a buffoon!!

Limbaugh just has to have something negative to say. While it is unfortunate that these pirates were just kids, what was the Pres. supposed to do? Limbaugh, walking, talking bag of garbage!

I leaned toward conservative and have voted Republican.  Rush Limbaugh is an embarrasment with some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth.  I’m glad Obama showed strength in this situation.  Teenagers in America have killed many people.  Action needed to be taken

Barbara, I agree. It’s why I never listen to him. I’m not saying that everything he says is ridiculous, but too much is. It’s his job to outrage, incense, and amuse, but I’ve got better things to do with my time.
