Liz Smith on Obama's Dogfight
In response to: What should the U.S. do IF the Iranian election was not honest? And if it was, did the outcome set us back?
We should keep supporting President Obama’s status in this dogfight (it’s not our country), and we should be encouraging to the people of Iran. Even Pat Buchanan, arch conservative, believes Obama’s position on Iran is the right one. What does the Conservative Right want? Another war for us with Iran or to worsen relations with a government and a people that may be softening up without the irritation of George Bush. Regardless of who, which side is in power in the near future in Iran, that is who Obama will have to deal and negotiate with. We should stand aside and let Iran speak for itself.

Maybe this will help you understand…not even close DeBurca…Iran and the 2000 election. That is demeaning compared to what those people are going through. Good gawd, not even close…
Americans have the right to bear arms. Thank God for that…..
You are correct DeBurca…I was not clear enough. I intended to impart that when the citizens have the right to be armed, it creates a different mind set on both sides. I did not mean that they literally had the weapons WITH them during the protest.
However, if the government started a killing spree, the citizens could respond and defend themselves.
It Ok DeBurca….you just believe whatever you want to…I can defend myself just fine. And funny how you assume that the "most advanced military in the world" would turn against the citizens….
I was thinking about foriegn threats…
No worries though, some good samaritan would probably come to your aid. Maybe even I would…but you would have to say please first… ;]

Obama directly addresses the Iranian government for the first time after a day of violence in Iran

I am with you on this Liz and so are most thinking analysts who do not have a political agenda. It’s easy for some to use this as yet another opportunity to criticize the President or to ‘act tough’ like McCain with cocky phrases etc… those people are not responsible for the results and are just attempting to make political points.
If President Obama were to get involved with backing any side in this, that side is doomed and so are the brave people who are protesting. Also, we are not in a position nor should we be tempted to start a war with Iran over their domestic situation.
The far right shoots it’s mouth off about these things for one reason and one reason only, to fire up the base and raise money and the best interests of the US and the best interests of the Iranian people are not in the picture.

President Barack Obama’s job approval rating has slipped to a new low at just 58 percent, Gallup Poll Daily tracking reports, while 33 percent of Americans surveyed now disapprove of the job he is doing as president.
Obama’s disapproval rating is just one point shy of his record-high 34 percent disapproval score from early June, Gallup reports. His approval rating is similar to the 59 percent he has received on four other occasions.
The dip is a new low for Obama’s presidency. Since taking office in January, his approval rating has averaged 63 percent.
The decline in Obama’s ratings results from a drop in approval among Republicans, as well as among political independents, the poll shows. Democrats, however, remain as highly supportive of the president as ever at 92 percent.
Only 21 percent of Republicans now approve of the job Obama is doing, down from 30 percent last February. The approval rating of independents is down from 60 percent to 53 percent.
Several issues may be contributing factors behind Obama’s recent approval rating decline:

I find it interesting that this says "Only 21 percent of Republicans now approve of the job Obama is doing, down from 30 percent last February" …. considering only about 20 percent of voters will even admit to being Repulicans! lol
Also, an average 63 percent approval rating would be any Republican’s wet dream.
