Not even slightly amusing…

For some reason although I am fairly intelligent and humourous, I rarely understand political cartoons … this is no exception … help, anyone?

Sotomayor was beautifully controlled at her hearings—as is the custom for those judicial hearings.  But one hopes to see her "unleashed"  in years to come, after she doesn’t have to be "careful" .  I use the B word with great respect and consider it not a negative usage, but postive.

Exactly! That is why I absolutely LOVE your cartoon!

Love it.  But then, I get it.   Personally, I’m waiting for her to unleash her inner Latina, which I expect is equally politically incorrect.

Got it! So basically she’s on her best behavior now but the expectation is that she will be more fiery after she assumes her new position.

I have a sarcastic sense of humor and unfortunately for me most humor that I read is tainted by that perspective, so I was trying to untangle something meant to be taken at face-value.

Gee I got it.  I found it cleverly and "cautiously" amusing.

I just can’t wait till she is seated. It is time for some new thoughts on that court.

I think she is going to be spectacular! She doesn’t strike me as the type of person easily intimidated, so I hope she will use her voice once seated. Challenge the status quo and truly shake things up, wake them up…..time will tell. And Liza I get it completely….you’re right, the inner Bitch is sure to come out! We all have that side.   :-)

The use of the word "bitch" completely turned me off!  I am amazed at how many women think it is ok to call each other a "bitch" when there are so many other words that can be used.  If we, as women, don’t show any respect for each other, how do we expect others (men) to show respect to us?

Margie: Lisa was not calling Sotomayer a bitch, she was using that word to connote the fire in her belly that we hope will emerge once she’s on the bench. There is something about that word, except when used to describe the gender of a dog, that’s like fingernails on a blackboard. There’s something angry sounding in it. Words are powerful, and they evoke heady responses.

Correction: Liza with a z, I put an s by mistake, I see.

Agreed, my bad.  I also agree about the word and for that reason, do not like it.

Phyllis,

Absolutely correct!  I was not calling her that AT ALL.Thank you. What you say is exactly what  I meant.

Liza-love it!  Considering Sotomayor has had to be so careful, so as not to offend all the "sensitive white men", it would be great to see her fiesty side.  But I suspect she will be pretty circumspect for awhile.  I would love to be a fly on the wall during the SC case discussions.  Wonder what Scalia is thinking.
