Margo Howard, Ann Coulter Miraculously Agree: Palin Too Big for Alaska

Margo Howard
Editor’s Note: A longtime journalist, Margo Howard went into the family business (her mother was the fabled Ann Landers) in the 1990s as Dear Prudence. Her broad experience and understanding of human nature provide answers for the troubled — and entertainment for everyone else. Margo’s advice column, Dear Margo, appears twice a week — on Thursdays and Fridays — on wowOwow.com.

To slightly skew an e-mail that was going around a few weeks ago, let me just say that friends said the day I agreed with Ann Coulter pigs would fly. Well, swine flu … and I now find myself in agreement with Coulter. [Click here for Coulter’s post.] Sarah Palin is too big for Alaska. And you know why? She signed a book deal – reportedly for somewhere between $7,000,000 and $11,000,000. In April. I do not know how I missed this news, but I did. Maybe you did, too. In any case, no one is particularly tying this news to her resignation. I mean, wouldn’t you rather earn X millions of dollars than $175,000? The haste with which she made her announcement, however, does nothing to disabuse me of the idea that she and the Mr. might be in some legal trouble.

I think quitting for a big-bucks book deal shows a real lack of character, but a great deal of opportunism. The citizens of Alaska elected her to a term of office and she is skipping out because … well, she is too big for Alaska. People who are lame ducks seldom deal with their duckhood by resigning, so let’s scratch that one.

I do disagree with Coulter (my usual stance) on one point she makes in her post. She writes, "I thought her press conference explained it very clearly – though she couldn’t put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but it’s obvious." She "explained it clearly"? That, my dear, is a stretch. If she had explained it clearly the news outlets and the blogosphere would not be talking about how it could barely qualify as English.

Should you want to read a hilarious entry from Jim Washburn’s blog, here’s the beginning, and the link:
‘Let’s go quit!’ That was CNN’s Candy Crowley Friday night, imagining the decision process that led to Sarah Palin’s resignation, so spontaneous and unplanned did it seem. Nutty, too. It sounded like Richard Nixon if, heading into his Checkers Speech, he’d first taken the edge off by mixing Benzedrex inhalers into his rum and Cokes, the ones Dick Tuck had laced with pure Sandoz LSD, and then Nixon had gone on camera and wrestled an imaginary bear that turned into a black Satan and he’s going to keep that precious baby, no matter what anybody says, even the NBA coaches. That kind of nutty.

Liz, I agree that this was not an extremely clear explanation and I don’t agree with her quitting.  BUT, your comment above doesn’t consider the fact that even when she did speak clearly, few people gave her the credit for it—ever.  Most of the media hated or disliked her all along for her conservative stance.  It’s kind of like this site—most of the liberals on this site will rarely give a conservative view the time of day.  And it’s because their idealogy keeps them from objectively looking at other’s views.  I post very little on here anymore, because I usually get a "that’s a really stupid view; now let me give you my superior view."  (I know, it’s not all the time—but most of the time.)  So wowowow is typically very one-sided, except for a few brave individuals.  Sarah Palin may have not been a lot of things, but few have taken the beating in the press that she has.

For those looking for reasons why Palin is acting with speed, I present as a possibility.  I’m interested in Obama supporter reaction to this.

Here is video of Gerald Celente predicting what he calls "Obamageddon." Celente, of the Trends Research Institute looks into the future and gives some rather dire predictions based on what President Obama is doing. By the year 2012, Celente predicts a whole host of dire results. Celente has correctly predicted many other things in the past.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is the Palinite thought she can do no wrong. She quit her post because she doesn’t want to be a lame duck? Something smells there. There are smoldering fires out there. Time will tell the truth. My question is does it matter whether her exterior is pretty? Not at all. I do not wish to live in her theocracy she would create. She has let her constituents of Alaska down.To step down as she has is to quit on those who did believe in her. I know a person from Alaska who says she cause havoc as mayor of Wassilla. Heck for 18 months I was told her second in command actually did duties of the mayor because of scandal. I want to see the truth come out. When the going gets tough, the tough don’t quit.

Please cite those government actions by Palin that indicate she’s theocracy-minded?

The woman can’t say a sentence that doesn’t add God to it somewhere. She and her type would love a theocracy.

Not the answer Vince (and others) may be waiting for.

Can you help us know if any of Gov. Palin’s actions as Governor supported a theocracy?

That article is one lie after another.

When are you people going to get some intigrity?   How can you shamelessly peddle lies around. Is that your character?

You are obviously a Palinite. The sun doesn’t shine out of her posterior. As for lies, I don’t think so. My character is fine, yours on the other hand is questionable when you have to bring that to the conversation.

Your character is fine if things like the truth. fairness, intigrity and basic decency are excluded.  As much as you want to make ths into a matter of "You support Person A therefore you are evil" it’s not.  It’s that in the face of lies and being alerted to the fact that what you are spreading are lies , that you do not care.

That that is the case with so many people in this country is probably the thing that saddens me the most about all of this. I used to believe that Americans stood for certain things but its clear that so many of you strange , angry, politically-consumed people dont give a damn about the truth or what is honest.

I’m an astrologer and I know some people may not see how that means I can take an objective approach but I think Sarah’s natal chart is telling us something that we can apply some age-old wisdom towards.

She was born on the 23rd day of Aquarius. Because it is the 23rd day, astrology tells us her creative self is naturally out in the public., In fact, the symbol for that placement is, "A big bear, sitting down and waving all its paws". Well, there is a funny kind of embarrassment to having her job, I suppose. And it brings up thoughts of puppets, trained pets - but it can really represent being above one’s basic or animalistic body. Like, knowing better, doing the right thing for community (Aquarius). Maybe that "having control over the animal self"  was what the moose was all about. We rally need to take a higher view when we are maiking assumptions and then it doesn’t turn so oppositional.

I don’t know where she (Palin) is coming from but I think she should realize she can not turn back once she learns something. That’s the trouble with becoming more conscious and aware of what is good for the world, your actions must follow your new knowledge or there is a backlash to pay.

I am not of a particular party; I know there must be duality in the world. Yet I am hoping we all come together on the wisest choices and stop dicking around (commonspeak for Margo, *smile!*) with personal attacks. I was happy to see SP promoting health with her running. I hope she goes on a purifying diet next, that helps her see things more clearly and therefore is a good role model for people. If we could really communicate more objectively, we may find all our stances are much closer to one another than we think.

Interestingly symbolic that the posts are all topsy sturvy! Once you go deeper into the labrynth, things begin to get turned upside down where things stop making sense!

<3, Sharon

I’m curious about Timothy Geithner (The Sec. of Treasury). (Really)

Can you gave a short [not sure what the word is] about him? Thansk for your time.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand the villification of Sarah Palin. No one seems to know exactly why she quit, though there are many theories. The Dems seem to think that there’s some skeleton (one that didn’t come out during the presidential campaign) lurking in her closet or she’s going to make a bundle writing books. The GOPs think that she should be some untouchable angel (kind of like the Dems feel about Obama).

Whether or not you agree with Palin’s beliefs, I think we all agree she is, first and foremost a woman dedicated to her family.

Has anyone considered that she is the mother of a very young child with special needs? Has anyone considered how physically and mentally draining raising a child with special needs can be, no matter how much ‘help’ you get? Has anyone considered that she may wish to keep the press away from her family, especially the baby?

I don’t know, any more than anyone else, but my guess is that she’s withdrawing from politics to take care of her family and go back to being a "hockey mom".  If so, more power to her!

As for "quitting" before her term is up, she may feel that this is the only way to protect her family.

No, I don’t agree with a lot of what she believes in but thank goodness this is America where we can believe whatever we want to believe.

BTW, I think the comments on her appearance are a bit mean spirited. I sure don’t see any of the Obamas winning any beauty contests.
