Meghan McCain Bites Back at Laura Ingraham

Meghan McCain’s not one to let herself be insulted.

The budding journalist, who is also the daughter of former Republican presidential candidate John McCain, today blasted radio host Laura Ingraham for her remarks that she’s "plus-sized."

Wrote McCain on her Twitter page, "Laura Ingraham, please stop talking about my body." She then offered this message: "To all my girls out there. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about your body! I love my curves and you should love yours, too!" That’s right, girl!

Update: McCain offers a more detailed response over at The Daily Beast, in which she writes: "At this point, I have more respect for Ann Coulter than I do for Laura Ingraham because at least Coulter didn’t come back at me with heartless, substance-less attacks about my weight."

Unfortunately, Libra Lady, it isn’t shocking that some women feel it’s A-okay to attack other women about their dress size, their make-up and even their choice of a significant other (male or female).  As women, we’ve all grown-up with these types of women and somehow, despite Women’s Lib and the Feminist Movement, we still find ways to belittle and attack other women. The only shocking thing is that we haven’t found ways to be more supportive of one another.  And that’s a shame!

I’m so glad Meghan spoke up and especially to all the girls out there with her message….I am very sick of the media being so rude about women’s weight and every other little thing they do….this double standard is getting old….how many men do you know of gets this same scrutiny rather a Hollywood peep or politician….sometimes I don’t think the women’s movement has come that far at all…we still have to keep fighting for everything we stand for.   I’m glad Meghan spoke up…good for you!

Meghan McCain is to be commended -  She is trying to appeal to the more moderate Republicans but I don’t know how many exist now.  Most seem to be so far to the right.  Lauara Ingraham like Ann Coulter are some of the most viscous women.  I must say - they are equal opportunity bashers.  They bash both men and women.  Remember what Ann called John Edwards.

The personal attack on Meghan by Laura was a bit childish…but we must remember that Meghan is lashing out at Conservatives that were not really in her dad’s corner during the primaries both supporting OTHER candidates.

The truth is in this arena (political commentary)…if you are going to dish it out you better be able to take it as well! And just appearing on Rachel’s show probably infuriated the far right and then to bad mouth any of it’s members was not going to endear her with that part of the party.

John should have warned her…and if he did and she did it anyway…she better be careful the next time she attend a Rep even when both women are there.  Conservative Talk radio hosts ae a bit on edge right now…and you know how women ae when attacked even by one that is suuosedly their own!

Talking about a woman’s body rather than the content of what she said is nothing more than jealousy and envy. This made her look very petty.

you forgot the most important word…. SEXIST!  I’d like to see someone talk about Joe Biden’s tie choices or Ted Kennedy’s weight and make that a reason for why they shouldn’t be taken seriously.  It’s only when it’s a woman that it’s an issue.  SHAME on the press.

Interesting that so many of the Liberals here are defending Meghan but see absolutly nothing wrong with bashing Palin, her children,   granchildren, their boyfriends, her hometown,  and state.

Petty is not anywhere near the word for what was said and continues to be said about them!

Meghan is not perceived as a threat.  Let her start seriously campaigning for a popular Republican, and the libs will tear her apart.

SJ….my thoughts exactly….I would be curious to know what they were saying about Meghan when she was on the campaign trail with her father and Gov. Palin!!!

I don’t remember any "Liberals" making bashing Palin’s appearance. We had enough to fault Palin about as far as her inadaquate experience, educational background, knowledge and intelligence, that made her a horrible choice for VP. Nobody had to stoop to attacks on her appearance. As far as Megan McCain goes, I think making fun of her weight is a tacky, low blow and if Laura Ingraham had anything concrete to say, she wouldn’t have stooped so low.

It is my personal opinion that once John McCain gets out of politics, if not before, Megan will realize that her political leanings are more toward the Democratic Party and she will feel free to say so. The GOP, as is obvious by the vitriol of Laura Ingraham, has no room for moderate thinking in their party, and Megan will realize that.
