Meghan McCain Blasts Ann Coulter: 'I Find Her Offensive'

The increasingly outspoken Meghan McCain has turned her attention away from matters of the heart and toward another lightning rod: Ann Coulter. Writing in her regular Daily Beast column, McCain, daughter of Republican Sen. John McCain, lambasted Coulter’s brash style, one which McCain finds inconceivable:

I straight up don’t understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied.

McCain goes on to wonder if Coulter’s right-wing antics are simply an act or if she’s just offering the public "gimmicks to gain publicity." Coulter has yet to release a reply, but we have a feeling she’s got one in the works.

Good for you Meagan, it shows she has a mind of her own and doesn’t feel the need to follow the herd if only there were more like her.

Here’s what she said completely :

Meghan McCain, self-styled Republican party critic and Daily Beast blogger, has a serious beef with Ann Coulter.

I straight up don’t understand this woman or her popularity. I find her offensive, radical, insulting, and confusing all at the same time. But no matter how much you or I disagree with her, the cult that follows Coulter cannot be denied.

McCain takes issue with the fact that Coulter is reliably one of the most public faces of the struggling-to-find-its-new-image party, because she is easily pushing away the few members the party has left.

… But here is what I don’t get about Coulter: Is she for real or not? Are some of her statements just gimmicks to gain publicity for her books or does she actually believe the things she says? Does she really believe all Jewish people should be "perfected" and become Christians? And what was she thinking when she said Hillary Clinton was more conservative than my father during the last election? If you truly have the GOP’s best interests at heart, how can you possibly justify telling an audience of millions that a Democrat would be a better leader than the Republican presidential candidate?

McCain goes on to suggest that if she herself, the daughter of a former GOP presidential candidate, is regularly turned off by Coulter’s extremist antics, what must the general public think?

McCain is equally baffled by the GOP’s official leadership. In an ABC radio interview, she admits she doesn’t understand Michael Steele’s new "hip hop" strategy.

If you’re saying I want people from the hip-hop community — I don’t even know what that means exactly — I guess people that are in the music industry could become more closer and you know try and become Republicans (sic). I just don’t think that is going to work. I think they need to rely on a message that is going to really stick with people of my generation.

And in a previous Daily Beast post, the campaign blogger expressed frustration with the lack of Internet savvy in the Republican party

Methinks a lot of McCain’s hatred of Coulter is sour grapes. Coulter was one of Papa McCain’s harshest critics, after all. Interesting that one of her gripes with Coulter is her comments about her dad and Hillary Clinton….

Excellent point Rachel F.,

The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree. McCain’s daughter is showing that her and her father don’t have a clue when it comes to being a true conservative. Her daddy has always been a "candy ass" for the left. Yet he thinks he is the so called "Maverick!

John McCain thinks being a Maverick means going against anything your party stands for.

Ann Coulter spanked John McCain’s butt pointing out his lack of leadership as atrue conservative and McCain’s daughter is proving this to be true by attacking conservative talkers like Ann and Laura.

Why does she think MSNBC and Maddow would even listen to a word she has to say?

Papa McCain needs to teach his daughter when to keep her mouth shut!

I wonder if Johnnie thinks his daughter is being a Maverick also?

Meagan McCain is one of a rare breed - a Republican who makes sense.

Irrespective of party, she is on the same side of most people who think Ann Coulter is a pathetic, hostile, angry and aging bitch who is on the verge of madness.  (I direct you to the bulging eyes, smudged to distortion with excessive mascara, the skeletal body - not to mention the raspy nasal voice and the maniacal ranting and raving.  This woman is crazier than a loon.)

What, exactly, does her age have to do with anything? Hate to tell you this, Woody…but we all age.

Rachel, I think Mr. McBreairty was simply stating that the fact that "we all age" is just one of many realities that Coulter seems to be out of-touch and over-the-top about.

Moderation is the key.  Too far left and  too far right is too far for me.  This is the reason why republicans will insist on a moderate republican presidential candidate in 2012.   We need to get back to center stage.

Deber,

Well said.  I have been saying for some time now that we may be in need of a 3rd party — one that represents us centrists.  For some time now I have felt that the Democratic party had been hjiacked by the far left and the Republican party by the far right — and neither spoke for me.  I think those are the people, who have made the most noise.  What I believe to be the majority in this country has sat on the sidelines disgusted by the whole thing.

Ann Coulter has become more and more abrasive and alienating.  She has said a few  things that make sense, but her style and the rest of her schtick is so off-putting, it is tough to take her seriously.  I occasionally wonder whether she truly is so extreme or is she simply trying to be povocative and sell books.  She has quite a following — and that I find frightening because she mostly repels me.

When Obama won, I believed that many of his far left supporters would have their hearts broken as he moved more to the center. Right now, however, I think so many of us on both sides of the aisle are waiting with bated breath to see whether he and his team will reverse the course of this economy without socializing the country or increasing the national debt any more than it’s already been.

I agree with that totally.  People like Ann Coulter hurt the party tremendously.  And I also agree that she looks insane.

I have never cared for Coulter. I think she crawled out from the same rock that Heidi & Spencer did.

Ms. McCain is right on target by questioning Satan’s, er, Ms. Coulter’s authenticity.  She knows exactly how to bring attention to herself and her latest so-called literary offering by making outrageous statements aimed at pushing the buttons of any sane, rational human being.  Who knows if she really believes her own schtick?  Heaven help her if she does.
