Meghan McCain Knocks on Laura Ingraham on 'The View' (Video)

The weekend did nothing to quell the ongoing war between Meghan McCain and Laura Ingraham.

McCain, daughter of presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, came out last week and responded to Ingraham’s remarks that she was "plus-sized," remarks that were a direct result of McCain’s public criticism of the Republican Party.

Ingraham’s comments also included some disrespectful dismissal: "Do you think that anyone would be talking to you if you weren’t kind of cute and you weren’t the daughter of John McCain?" She went on to mock McCain as a heavyset Valley girl.

McCain wasted no time biting back, and took more shots at Ingraham on today’s episode of "The View," telling the girls, "When Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, ‘Kiss my fat ass,’ that’s what I feel right now. I’m like, ‘Kiss my fat ass!’" Ms. McCain, who writes for The Daily Beast, also said that Ingraham’s remarks hurt more than just her. Via Think Progress:

What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics and I want to have a political discussion about the ideological future of the Republican Party, and the answer is, ‘She’s fat, she shouldn’t have an opinion.’ What kind of message are we sending young women? … It infuriates me. I’m a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I’m too fat to write?

Ingraham responded immediately, and said on her radio show:

The bottom line is it’s rough and tumble out there. You wanna put yourself out there as someone who’s going to redirect the future of the Republican Party, and you’re going to have to deal with satire. You’re gonna have to deal with people teasing … You gotta just take a chill pill … Can I say lighten up or is that offensive too?

No, it’s not offensive, but remarks on McCain’s weight certainly are.

Meghan is not allowed to have her own thoughts and opinions about the Rep Party and this is Ingraham’s way of letting her know that in a very rude and offensive way.  This young lady is doing a good job of sticking up for herself against this nasty woman who is only another mouth piece of the party that Meghan belongs to but doesn’t necessarily agree with on certain things.  You go girl and stick to your guns.

Obviously Meghan does think for herself and can say what she wants and many shows have given her access to do that.  If she were afraid to say what she thinks, she wouldn’t be there.

Meghan has been a Republican less than a year…. if she wants to be a "mouthpiece" for them she better do as Laura says…. toughen up!

Meghan is not a mouth piece for the Rep Party as she doesn’t believe in all their old stuck in the mud ways and knows it needs to change.  Now Ingraham is the old Rep Party and can’t stand the idea of Meghan coming out and talking about the good old ways they love being challenged by Meghan and that is why she has a bee in her bonnet about Meghan.  She is tough enough already she is out there speaking her mind whether it pleases or offends those in her own party and good for her.

caj, I agree. I think what Meghan has to say reaches to a lot of younger people who are Republican but dont like the old way of the Reps and would like to see change…I think its great Meghan is standing up and speaking and not letting Coulter of this Ingraham woman knock her quiet.

And exactly how do you interpret "toughen up"? I think Meghan has shown she can engage Annie Coulter’s clone and come out without a mark on her.  I prefer idiot #1 Annie Coulter …..Missy Laura runs a poor second for the Republican party’ role of Barbie the Barbarian.

We have come too far for women to avoid discussing the issues by denigrating another woman’s appearance. Have you ever heard men, who are out of ammunition, respond to other men with anything comparable?  Laura Ingraham has lost all credibility with intelligent women.  I hope Meghan continues to write and opine.  The Republican party has been hijacked by the minority far right and Meghan speaks for most of us centrists.

You would think that when you consider the way the women of the "View" treated her mother and father (John and Cindy McCain) that she would ever go back on this show!

Is she really this stupid?

Just another example of how the Republicans have no choice but to resort to personal attacks because they have no legitimate points to make or excuses for the way they have screwed up our country - and the world.  Laura Ingram is a vicious partisan hack who has no class or humane qualities whatsoever to her crude obnoxious personality. She is so very Republican. Never mind if she is a lesbian or not, I know many lesbians who are very intelligent, sweet and have alot of common sense and decency, both of which Laura Ingram is sorely lacking.

Meghan joined the GOP, if I remember correctly, as a birthday present to her dad last year. How did she become a party voice soooo quickly? Shades of Palin and Bush…stick a face/personality puppet in front of the religious right that looks good and write an opinion script out for them and put them out for parade; if the look isn’t just right, trash the person and their character. Meghan signed on to a very cruel and vicious system. And while I agree with her point, it’s her party rules that she’s complaining about. Maybe it’s time for the GOP to follow some of those Jesus/Golden rules teachings they like to talk about.

Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Green … it doesn’t matter.  For any woman to take a pot shot at another woman by bringing up a weight issue is just so destructive, and in my opinion demonstrates a great lack of credibility.  If you disagree with someone’s point, wouldn’t it be more productive to make a case for your own counterpoint?  Perhaps Ms. Ingraham is beginning to doubt her own convictions to the point that it’s just easier to get in the low blow than to actually engage in any type of meaningful dialog.

I find it ironic that many a Liberal woman on this site suddenly find themselves defending a Republican woman because she is bad mouthing the opposite party……yet think nothing of bashing the likes of Sarah Palin.

Of course Meghan is entitled to her own opinon of her own party and she better be tough enough to let the chips fall as a result.

It is also ironic that all of a sudden by betraying her party she is now newsworthy and deserving of attention by the Liberal media!…when during the campaign no media cared except to spread vicious rumors about her entire family!

Wake up Meghan…you are being USED like a prostitute..and they will have no respect in the morning.

I don’t think any of the Liberal women here are defending her because she is bashing her own party.  Of couse, anyone who is going to throw their hat into the political arena in any way can expect criticism, whether it be Meghan McCain or Sarah Palin or anyone in between - on either side.  My only point was that if Ms. Ingraham expects to be taken seriously, she could have used a better argument than a fat joke to deflect those opinions.

Call her out on the issues. Call her out on whether or not one believes her to be a ‘Republican’ enough. But calling her out on her weight and then justifying that as an appropriate yardstick of whether she’s entitled to have an opinion? No, that’s just tacky. Besides, should she ever choose to do so, and why she would, I can’t imagine as she is lovely now, but again, should she choose to do so, Meghan McCain can lose weight. I doubt Laura Ingrham could have an original thought if her life was dependent on it.

A person doesn’t join a party in seriousness as a birthday gift. Megan is young, she apparently is interested in being involved in politics… but she is NOT what the GOP wants. She is moderate and speaks her mind about her moderate views. They (the Ingrahams and Coulters of the party) will drive her out of the party soon enough and it will be big news when she officially becomes a Democrat. Either that, or she isn’t too deeply political and will just get bored with the whole political thing altogether.
