Mr. Wow on the Rise and fall and Rise and ... What? – of Sarah Palin

By Mr. wOw
© AP
Like a dog with a bone – that’s the media and Sarah Palin, and Mr. wOw fears that if misguided types like David Letterman, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews keep it up, that bone is going to be turned into the base for a perversely delicious soup – President Palin consommé!

Mr. wOw is no fan of Mrs. Palin and her brood, but the more she is attacked, the more airtime she gets; the more airtime she gets, the more she solidifies her hard-right base. Attempting to marginalize and mock her won’t work. It hasn’t since the moment she appeared and cattle-prodded John McCain’s campaign. Like Hillary Clinton, Mrs. Palin provokes a testicle-shrinking reaction in men. (Palin has replaced Hillary in turning Chris Matthews’s red face – redder. He and Olbermann just won’t accept her undeniable – if mysterious – popularity.)

Even though Palin went over the line herself in reacting to Letterman’s revolting jokes, Mr. wOw was impressed and amused. She did not back down or give Letterman one bit of room to make amends. She wagged her finger, she poked her finger, she rolled her eyes, she curled her lip. She was one mad mother. She had a right to be. And if her maternal anger benefits her own career, all the better from her point of view. After all, Bristol’s unwed-mama dilemma was magically transformed into a good thing, after "victim" Palin and the Republicans got through with it.

Here’s Mr. wOw’s advice to all who fear Sarah Palin anywhere near the White House in 2012. Shut up. Ignore her. Let her shoot a moose or decapitate a turkey or whatever in peace. Don’t call her a "slutty stewardess" in style choice. She is not, for one thing. For another – airline personnel should ban Letterman from another flight until he apologizes to them. And leave the kids alone. The more she is attacked and mocked the more sympathetic a figure she becomes. Don’t you guys get that? Sympathy is a powerful tool. (How many times did McCain end up referencing his terrible sojourn at the Hanoi Hilton?)

Mr. wOw has some advice for Mrs. Palin too – Shut up. Go back to Alaska and learn something. Stop rising to every bit of bait put in front of you. Act presidential, if that’s what you want to be. No more interviews, parades or appearances outside the frozen tundra for at least a year. Stop palin’ around with the media. Be smart and turn the other cheek. Bitch to Todd, but leave Wolf Blitzer out of it.

Will either side take Mr. wOw’s cautions to heart? Are you kidding? We’re talking the media and politicians here. It’s gonna be blah, blah, blah for the next three years. And in the end somebody’s going to have a Cheshire Cat grin. I’d bet the rent on Palin, alas.

What bothers me are women that tell me I’m being prejudicial or somehow abandoning my estrogen by not supporting her. As I’ve stated, it’s not about her being successful. I wasn’t all that wild about Clinton either, but for much different reasons. Clinton kinda went the other way, almost putting on false bravado (i.e. machismo), and I liked her a lot better when she was just talking to people, because in those moments she looked like a person, not a politician. She was more effective when she went off the cuff, imho.

Also, everyone has skeletons, and everyone has done things that haven’t turned out so great. I don’t think turning the heat up on Palin in regards to her parenting is necessarily fair, because who of us out there hasn’t made mistakes in parenting (or will certainly make mistakes, like me). I do think that her extolling certain viewpoints makes her vulnerable, but what’s troublesome is, if it were a man saying these things on the political stage, say John Edwards (pre-affair), and his daughter ended up pregnant, people would probably take pity because they’d assume Elizabeth was too sick to take tabs, and John was, of course, too busy to get into the minutiae of his daughter’s life. And it wouldn’t be mentioned but maybe a handful of times. Not only will this be mentioned in Palin’s repertoire for years to come, but it was potentially politically ending for her. Why? Because it’s women and children, and because women don’t have the stain-protection men do. One smudge on a woman, and people don’t want to touch. Guys can be covered in oil and soot and yet the public will still embrace them. We’re all dirty, people. Every single one of us.

I am a liberal/moderate and the thought of Mrs Palin, or anyone like her, becoming President is frightening. I like the separation of church and state and I fear that under someone like Mrs Palin that separation would erode. I do not want a religion to make our laws, change our constitution, etc. What would happen to the many who are not of that religious persuasion? I am a Holocaust survivor and I remember only too well what can happen when religious intolerance rules a country.

Tana..as a Holocaust survivor ( you must have been very young) you are showing religious intolerance her those of Christian Faith..are you not.  Palin has never in her role as mayor or Govenor tried to erode the laws.  Why would you consider her "frightening"?   Obam is also a man of FAITH ( or he say he is anyway) does he frighten you as well?

Wanting the separation of church and state is NOT intolerant of any faith whatsoever.

Is your name Tana??

Yes, my name is Tana. My name came of a list Hitler made available for Jewish children. All boys had David as their middle name and all girls Sarah but families could give their children a different name providing it was on the Jewish names list.

my comment about Tana being young was not a criticism.

No, I am not intolerant of Christianity. In fact I admire much that Christ taught. I just  believe that religion and state must remain separate. President Obama has made it clear that he believes the same. Religion is, and ought to remain, a personal thing.

Yes, I was young during the Nazi years, but some horrors you don’t forget. They leave ever everlasting scars.

Mr. WoW, usually I agree with almost all of your opinions and beliefs but lately we are at odds. On this issue, Sarah Palin….we are really at odds. She came on the scene last fall with a fan-fair or attention and admiration from the right. Everyone viewed her as the saving grace for their party’s chance to take the White House. And it was "because of" all the attention she got from the media that led to her demise. The more she spoke, the more we realized it would be a big mistake to have this woman anywhere near the White House.

And nothing has changed in that regard. You say it is bad for her to have as much attention as she is getting because it only solidifies her base. Yep, it does. But two things you must keep in mind Mr. Wow, her "base" is shrinking as everyday goes by. The republican party is almost non-existent. They are doing it to themselves with the very help of people like Palin, Limbaugh, Gingridge, Steel and others. Every time they open their mouths it substantiates that our nation made the right choice with Obama. They refuse to understand that not only doesn’t America Look the way it did 10 years ago, but it doesn’t Think the way it did 10 years ago.

Sarah Palin hasn’t said anything in the last 6 months that adds the slightest credibility to her being qualified to lead our nation. Oh my Lord I just got chills. Could you imagine how she would have responded to this current issue in Iran?

No, I love you to pieces, but I say let her keep talking. Give her a spot light if need be and her own diamond encrusted microphone at every appearance. Because the more she speaks, the better the Democrat and Independent parties look! :-0

Do you honestly think Biden would do a better job!??

You  seem to forget Palin was NOT  the Presidential candidate.  Even though she has more management experience than Obama.  Obama cannot even fire an Inspecter correctly even though he co-sponsored the bill that determines how  to.

it seems to me that as govenor of alaska  she should be there doing her job  if she stays here much longer  alaskans may decide  that they want someone that is commited to them  not someone who puts herself first

Good grief..she was in NY for the weekend.  Just because she is being talked about for weeks does not mean she is there.

She is doing her job…..She hired a new Attorney General…

md…so she shouldn’t have went to NYC and do a fun raiser for children and autism….I see how that works now….Gov. Palin does a tremendous job  for children with needs…..I haven’t heard anyone praise her for that.  But on a previous post, they put her down for not aborting her baby when she found out he had downs syndrome.

It appears Alaskans don’t want her either.  Her approval ratings are in the tank.

As governor, Sarah Louise’s approval rating have ranged from 93% in June, 2007, to 54% in May, 2009.  A legal defense fund has been set up to help with all those pesky ethic violations.

Seems that the more Alaskans hear and see Barbie, the less they like her.  Same problem Team McCain had with her numbers as they bravely soldiered on through a doomed run at the Oval Office.

Tsk Tsk.
