Newt Gingrich on Obama Dog Excitement: It's 'Fairly Stupid' (Video)

Newt Gingrich became a bit of a sourpuss while discussing the First Family’s new dog Sunday.

Gingrich, the former speaker of the House, told ABC’s George Stephanopolous that while he’s happy Sasha and Malia Obama are excited, he finds the news breaks and public interest to be "fairly stupid."

“I hope that the girls love the dog,” said Gingrich, according to CNN. “I hope the family — and all the pressure they’re going to be in — finds it useful. And I think that this whole thing is fairly stupid.”

He continued to say that he’s surprised so many care about the dog, which was a gift from the Kennedy family, "It’s great that they have a dog. It’s great that the kids are adjusting. And where they got it from — who cares? It’s a nice gesture on Senator Kennedy’s part to give it to them but who cares?”

The dog arrives Tuesday and, for the record, we care about little Bo. Let’s hope he is more gregarious than the Bush’s dog, Barney, who bit a nosy reporter as his master’s administration came to a close.

OMG!!! Why would anyone ask his his opinion on the dog anyway when so much more is going on? Honestly…why bring it up to him?

But the most RIDICULOUS part of this article was the last sentence…blaming Bush’s dog for something!!! Some people have no shame…like the author of this article. Disingenous to say the least…

Newt’s such a sour killjoy. Even Dems got a kick out of Mrs. Beasley and Barney…and felt sorry for him when GWB dropped him on his head on the tarmac. Poor Barney: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9vJNtY_mZ4

He still had a headache from his ‘dad’ dropping him on his head….and then was provoked before he bit the reporter. as the vid shows:

Newt’s got a problem with Bo after the Bush’s exploitation of their pets in Christmas videos and having them ‘write’ books etc? Caroline’s pony Macaroni never had to write a book to bring more money into the family coffers.

I wonder if it bothered Newt, or if tax money was spent, to produce this elaborate Christmas video starring Barney:

Why don’t the Dems on the panel come back with this stuff and hoist the fat guy up on his own petard?

Why not focus on the last quote of the video clip: "It’s a cute puppy! Everybody cares!"

Newt’s reaction was not as negative as the tone of your post would indicate - this whole exchange was very light-hearted. Stop trying to stir up something when there’s nothing there.

I didnt read anything into Newt saying what he said as really being negative…he stated the obvious and I guess he doesnt understand why we need news breaks to announce the Obama girls are getting a dog, which  makes sense.  Yes its news but is it "breaking" news?

I am a dog lover and have had dogs my whole life so they do bring you a sense of calm, once you get them house broken, but hopefully since this dog is older, it is already house trained; however, I am a bit concerned as to why the dog was brought back by its original owner?

Isn’t it true that blood pressure can go down when one pets an animal? I think it’s great for people to have pets if they have the means to care for them. Caring for an animal can create a bond that is so positive and you can learn to be responsible for helping feed and care for an animal in general. I hope this breed works well with the family. It’s a cute puppy from the pictures.

Rudi —-Off topic.  This is about a little doggie called Bo!  Nothing more, nothing less.  Must you make everything political?  I saw the program — the report on here is highly exagerrated!  Try being nice about the little dog.

Hi Lady G -  I guess whatever comment Rudi made and to which you responded…. was deleted by the new Sheriff (I think NP coined the word).  Good, Rudi should be deleted often.   But you are correct, this is only a story about a "little doggie called Bo".   Gosh,  there are always stories about the pets in the White House….good human interest stories.

Bonnie — I love the name!  I understand it’s short for "Bo Diddley".  And, what a cute dog!  I was reading an article the other night — "famous dogs in the White House".  Almost every President has had a dog or cat.  In fact, one President, can’t remember which one, had a snake!  Think I’d rather have Bo!  LOL

Voters like the dog, and he’s calling them and their enjoyment "fairly stupid."

Fun news??  You have got to be kidding me!  Do you think this story going on for what- (4 or more days now) is going to make people all fuzzy and warm?  It is the same old same old!  Someone even actually mentioned something about hoping this dog is more fun than the Bush dog- Barnie.  What is wrong with people, what are you thinking?  Bringing up Newt’s exwives, other Presidents dogs. those things are the problems, people just attacking constantly at every opportunity.  One poster managed to get in the blame of the economic down fall of a Republican when we are talking about the dog! OMG There are so many that need to grow up and also open their eyes.  There is so much blame to go around it is sickening-on Both Sides and the American people need to take responsibility also for their part in this mess.  This dog is not going to make our crisis go anywhere, not even for a second, especially those who are living it and do not have food to put on their tables-if they had a house to put a table in!  Does anyone actually get that?  Just really curious.  WoW!
