Joe Biden, Like Quayle, Admits 'I Can't Spell Potato Either' (Video)

Vice President Joe Biden had a blast on Monday — sneaking out of the White House to throw the first pitch of the season at the Orioles and Yankees game at Baltimore stadium. After his ceremonial throw, Biden spoke to the announcers about a variety of topics — including his optimism for the economy, his lack of hair and his likeness to Dan Quayle.
On the economy and recovery plan, Biden said:
I think we are doing very well. We inherited a mess, which is not to blame anybody, but those are the facts. The economy was in the dumps; internationally we were in bad shape. I think the president had a great trip to Europe this time around. The NATO allies are finally starting to pony up in Afghanistan, we got the recovery package done. I think you’re going to see things moving … We got out of the blocks awful quick. Everyone talked about how long it took us to get that recovery package to create jobs. Well, you know, we did it in about 45 days. That has never happened before. Look, there is a long way to go. I’m not declaring victory or anything. This is a long haul and we will be judged at the end of the day as to whether or not middle-class incomes begin to rise by the time we are done with this job. If the economy comes back but the middle class doesn’t, then we’ve failed.
Then the conversation took an interesting twist.
Pointing to the scalp of Hall of Fame pitcher and announcer Jim Palmer, the VP said: "If I had this guy’s hair, I might have had a shot in the primaries." Removing his cap, Biden added: "You know … Look, there ain’t a whole lot there."
That’s OK, Mr. Biden. We only care if there’s a whole lot in there.
Before the banter ended, announcer Gary Thorne attempted to entice Biden to do some of the game’s play-by-play announcing by telling him that former VP Quayle had done it. Biden, who still wasn’t doing it, blurted: "Hell no. And I can’t spell ‘potato’ either." Biden — poking fun at Quayle’s most famous blunder of correcting a student’s spelling of "potato" to "potatoe" at an elementary school spelling bee — also has trouble counting. On the campaign trail, Biden miscounted the number of letters in the word "jobs":

Hi Di,
BoBo can’t do many things! LOL
My son is very intelligent, a talented writer, has a BA in English Literature and was in gifted English throughout his school years before college, and he probably can’t spell potato either. Being a good speller is a great skill to have but in itself is not an indicator of intelligence or lack of intelligence.
