Sarah Palin Discusses Trig Decision: She Had to 'Walk the Walk'

Sarah Palin ventured outside Alaska yesterday and headed to Indiana, where she addressed a crowd of nearly 3,000 pro-life activists.

In an especially candid moment, Palin discussed her decision making when it came to having her son, Trig, who she knew would be born with Down’s syndrome. The governor told the crowd that she knew she could abort the child, but chose to "walk the walk" and support his life.

Palin explained that she was out of Alaska when she found out, and did briefly toy with the idea of terminating the pregnancy: "There, just for a fleeting moment, I thought, I knew, nobody knows me here. Nobody would ever know. I thought, wow, it is easy. It could be easy to think maybe of trying to change the circumstances. No one would know. No one would ever know."

Her conscience and faith, however, won in the end: "It was a time when I had to ask myself, was I gonna walk the walk or I was gonna talk the talk … I had just enough faith to know that trying to change the circumstances wasn’t any answer." And for that we commend you, Gov. Palin.

She was brutally honest about her emotions and what she had to go thru, in her heart and in her head. And even with her personal life held open for all to see, she still gets vicious, ugly commentary directed at her. Are some people’s political manifestos so ingrained, so rabid that they fail to recognize the humanity and challenges another can face? Is that R after her name such an incindiary? For some here yes, and they need to search their own hearts and souls, because their is something desparately lacking in their world. G-d bless little Trig.

I was fortunate enough to hear parts of her speech and it really moved me. LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…..so true, so true.

TP….I just don’t understand why Gov. Palin causes such a stir here….she has her beliefs on abortion, but she is not trying to change the laws or change women’s views on abortion, she is speaking to a right-to-life group, and they are there with the same opinions as she has…..and that is why she is giving this heartfelt speech….she’s not asking for people who are totally against her to listen to her….so I wish they would just leave her alone and get off her case.  If posters here hate her so much, then why do they come on to bash her here?  I just dont understand it.

She is a first class act and so honest!  How many politicians do you suppose would be that candid, especially the one’s that are pro-abortion-do you suppose they would ever admit it pubically?  Probably not, instead it is usually they support pro-choice but it would not be something that they personally would ever consider.  Sarah Palin is one of the most honest politicians we have today, she just puts herself out there and then deals with all the criticism.  Which, I am sure she will be blasted for these thoughts, I hope I’m wrong but I’m afraid I will not be.  She really is brave!

Hi Deborah,

Yes, Sarah Palin is first rate class act! She spoke so honestly and from the heart, by doing so she showed others that she understood the perdicaments that women can go through while at the same time, also showing them that there is always a better way than having an abortion. This is a woman of the highest moral caliber who most assuredly puts her money where her mouth is and walks the talk!

Ha BiBI….can you believe we are still having to defend Gov. Palin everytime she is on the news???  She really does still strike a nerve doesn’t she…and she isn’t even running for VP anymore, nor has she said she was going to run in 2012….but they think by bashing her every chance they can, will only beat her down more….she is too strong of a woman to let that happen….with everything she has taken from the media…."she is still standing"…..BRAVO!!!

She walks the walk alright—right away from her responsibilities to the people of Alaska and her duties as governor.  Just ask her legislature. Go home Palin and stay there.

"She shot right back at those who had criticized her for coming: "I’ve got some adversaries and they’re gonna crucify me if I say yes" to leaving the state. "Some don’t believe in sharing. Some are parochial and… condemn everything I do, but especially leaving the state. Which is ironic, because these are the same critics who would love to see me outside the state permanently!"

FP—You are so bitter. something is wrong in your heart.  We do not know your situation-but please take your anger at whatever to a proper place. You are just spitting in the wind.

Mimi….we all see that about FP…I wish he would take his anger out somewhere else….there are a few that show such anger everyday on here, and I just don’t know if their purpose is to just bring everyone down to their level or what the reasoning is, but it does get old….some of the posts have already been removed because there was no reason for it….no matter what the topic is about Gov. Palin, you will find the same bashing, the same words repeated over and over….

Gov. Palin’s speech was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes….today the radio is playing parts of it and she is definitely  talking the talk with her words!
