Question of the Day | 07/14/2009 11:00 pm

Does the decrease in Obama's approval rating worry you? How does he measure in your book? What are his greatest weaknesses now?

Joan Ganz Cooney, Liz Smith and Candice Bergen weigh in on the decrease in Obama’s approval rating (down from 62% in January to 54% in June)

Liz Smith: President Is a 'Thankless Job'

I am still for giving this guy all the breaks in the world considering what he has inherited. I am not going to start breaking down his performance for at least another two years and I hope I won’t have to – ever. Being president is a thankless job and many Americans seem childishly simpleminded and fickle in this regard. He has enough problems with all those Republicans and Democrats who throw up stumbling blocks for him.

Candice Bergen on the 'Miracle' First Family

I don’t even pay attention. It’s a total miracle the man and his too-cool-for-school wife are the First Couple. Just a complete miracle. And I don’t think either of them makes a wrong step. Ever. I am SO grateful to be alive to see this presidency.

Joan Ganz Cooney on Obama's Fights Ahead

His approval rating is bound to go down as long as we are in such a serious recession. My greatest worry about him, which may turn out to be his most serious weakness, is that he believes there is always common ground. I do not believe this is true and I think he’s going to have to get tougher with his opponents and his allies, like Nancy Pelosi, if he wants to bring about real change. It remains to be seen whether or not he has the stomach for the fights ahead.

I understand how you feel about the polls.  Thank you for agreeing with me that the banks should’ve been allowed to fail.   With that said, Goldman Sachs is a role model for bank bailouts but I’m with you on how the others will respond.   I believe it is not good business to set a precedent on bailouts.   Same with the foreclosures.

I do believe they are socialist programs but I will respect that you have a little peeve regarding the terminology.   Hey, frank, I don’t like the word "socialist" anymore than you do!

Good gawd F P…you will be taxed every time that you flip your light switch on…everytime that you purchase something…it is HIDDEN taxes…OF COURSE…nothing in this administration is done in the light of day…

We need a health plan…but not this one that Obama is shoving down our throats…there are better plans that can be a compromise….but then his friends wouldn’t be making all of the MONEY. Like GE….

There are hidden taxes everywhere. So what’s your point.

Seriously F P ? That is your response? Ya…and there are beaten women everywhere…so what’s the point of shelters?

THE POINT, F P is that you are being lied to…AGAIN. Obama policies will raise taxes on the average American…the very one that can NOT afford to spend more of their disposable income on energy taxes and higher food prices, etc.

What’s the point???

F P…your are still stuck on Halliburton when GE is controlling the media and invested in "green technologies" set up to make BILLIONS AND BILLONS…you are missing the boat…completely.

Check out ALL sources F P…even those that you do not support…hell check out Rolling Stone magazine for some cap and trade info…it is there…you only have to dig and question, instead of blindly supporting Obama out of hate for Bush.

Mexico, China and India will NOT limit emissions….so anything that we do will have no effect….but it will tax the average citizen to death and put control in the governments hands over what light bulb you buy and how much electricity you use. Only HUGE corporations will benefit from cap and trade . Cap and trade WILL do nothing for global warming…NADA. It failed miserably in Spain and only made money for corporations…

Take Goldman Sachs they made $2 BILLION last year yet paid NOTHING in federal income taxesGUESS WHAT?? Goldman Sachs owns 10% in in the exchange where CAP and TRADE deals are being made..COMMISSIONS for them will make $2 BILLION a year look like pocket change…Oh…and there’s that coinky-dink of Goldman Sach’s employees giving OBAMA $1 MILLON during his campaign…

Gore has made over $100 MILLION from his climate change fiasco. Just since he started his global warming crusade, his personal net worth has increased over 5,000%.! His new company, Generation Investment Management stands to make BILLONS more…for NOTHING but a scam.

Then check out GE….they are into everything from cap and trade to the health care scam…They stand to make even MORE than the above mentioned.

You really need to stop blaming things on Fox News and educate yourself. But, they put the class and race bait out there and there are those that bite.

FP - You always seem to bring in Reagan.  Why?  After the absolutely horrible Presidency of Jimmy Carter, people were so upset that Reagan beat Carter badly - Reagan won 489 electoral votes to 49 for Carter.

Reagan stimulated growth, he curbed inflation, increased employment and strengthened our national defense.  He cut taxes and Government expenditures.  I seem to remember a renewal of national self-confidence - so much so that he was elected by a wide margin for a second term.  In 1986 he overhauled the income tax code, eliminating many deductions and exempted millions of people with low incomes.  He also did more for small businesses in this country than any other other President before or after his Presidency.

I seem to remember that at the end of his presidency this nation was enjoying it’s longest period of peacetime and prosperity without recession or depression.

I guess I fail to see why you always bring up Reagan in your rantings.  This President should be so lucky to have a report card like Reagan when he leaves the Whitehouse.

Kelly in Texas, you clearly hate President Obama. Too bad more of us didn’t feel as you do when GW was elected the first time. Maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess now. Your post doesn’t make much sense….."money making scam for GE and Obama supporters"? Oh good, I’m a supporter. How can you say that after 6 short months he is failing miserably?? And where did you get the statistics about NH ~ Rush or Fox news? You are so eaten up with hatred, it’s sad. BTW, I, too, live in Texas, and use to be a full fledged republican, until I realized that the GOP and their policies was what went dreadfully wrong with this country. Please, just give this administration a chance to fix the mess they inherited. If they don’t do a good job within the 4 years they’ve been given, then we can all gripe and complain and vote him out. But until then, give Obama a chance. I doubt he can screw up even close to the way GW did.

Nanny…clearly you are in denial AND living in the past…neither one does anyone much good.

Clearly….I DO NOT support the Obama agenda of taking over this country by the government. You can attack me with your "buyers remorse anger" but it is not just Kelly in Texas who is aware of Obama QUADRUPLING of the PREVIOUS debt.

ANYONE that support such scams as cap and trade…are SUCKERS. Obama is stealing from the citizens and PAYING OFF big business.

Sooooo instead of blindly being a cheer leader for something that our own representatives were NOT ALLOWED to read….everyone should be researching the allegations that are being brought up ALL over this country…despite the Obama ownership of media…

Obama does not need any more of a "chance"….he has LIED and he is spending beyond what this country can bear. It is all for a reason…just check out what ACORN used for a model…Cloward-Piven strategy it says it all. If his policies are not stopped now, America will damaged for decades.

You had better put in the time and research that which you support. But then again, Obama has run the stats…he is well aware of the apathy that keeps Americans from reaching outside of their comfort zone…

Obama OWNS the quadrupling of our debt,

and who put the big debt there to be able to quadruple it? oh yes… republican de-regulator Bush! but you’ll ignore where the debt first came from, and you’ll ignore what policies and ideas drove the country into the ground.

Obama is attempting to cap and trade the citizens into a money making scam for GE and Obama supporters

how would cap-and-trade pollution standards make money for GE when they have to pay more money, and how would obama supporters make money off of this?

His numbers are down because his policies are not working

it’s only been a few months, what are you expecting, magic? it took 8 years for bush to destroy the country, it will take time to solve problems.

perhaps instead of being a constant source of pure negativity and doomsday predictions, you could talk about other solutions, or perhaps lend your patriotic support to Obama.

He has pushed his spending sprees and socialist agenda down our throats

what should we be doing then? if what he is doing is 100% wrong, you must have a specific idea of what would solve the country’s problems. please share them.

Pitiful….he is stealing us blind and that is just what he has planned.

god the way you talk about the president you’d think he was Hitler. your FEAR that conservative ideas have instilled in you is out of control.

and anyway the one who robbed the country blind and planned it all… that would be CHENEY - he made off with billions from halliburton thanks to writing policies into law favoring his company. FACT.

but i’m sure you dont care about HIS profiting from war and government involvement… he’s a republican, after all, and you like all of them. they can’t do anything wrong.
