President Obama Pops Into Iraq After Europe Visit

The president made a pit stop in Iraq on his way back from Turkey today.

The visit, which was closely guarded by his staff, came just after a car bomb exploded in Baghdad, the war-torn country’s capital city. No wonder Mr. Obama remarked, "There is still a lot of work to do here."

In addition to visiting with military and political leaders there, President Obama will also hand out honorary metals to a number of troops, MSNBC reports:

Obama was expected to award ten medals of valor to U.S. troops, meet with generals and speak with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki by telephone. The president had originally been scheduled to meet with al-Maliki in person but officials said dusty conditions meant helicopters were unable to fly to Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone.

Mrs. Obama did not make the detour to Iraq, but instead flew back to Washington, where we’re sure first daughters Sasha and Malia will greet her with open arms.

I’m sure the troops were pleased that he stopped by to visit them before he came back home and he can see first hand what is going on.  He did a great job on his trip overseas and has restored our standing around the world once again and I couldn’t be more proud of him.  Bravo Mr President and welcome back home.

Did you all notice so far not one person from the right has come on here and made a comment about this trip to meet the troops?  I guess because he was received so warmly by the troops and they all wanted to shake his hand it was more than they could stand.  It would have been much more of a story for them if he hadn’t been received so well and they could say a disaster he was as a President.

The Commander in Chief should visit the Troops it is a time honored tradition.  The question begs, caj p, why do you think you need to interject politics into the visit?  Do you really ‘need’ some sort of ‘validation’ by all of the President’s actions and statements?

I don’t need any validation from anybody about the President as I can see it for myself.  Funny how you are the only one who has come on here don’t you think?  It kind of proves my point wouldn’t say…that if there isn’t anything bad to say about Obama they all stay off here???  The reception he got was much more than they anticipated and hence the silent treatment on here…..not enough bad stuff there for them to talk about.

Caj…what would you want them to say?  That its great he stopped to see the soldier in Iraq?  I mean good for him…he did what he should have done…Why would anyone come on here to bash that?  Your right there isnt anything to bash…he did what any Commander in Chief should do, visit those that are under him to show his support.

Do you honestly think if for some reason he didn’t visit the troops in Iraq before he left or if the troops didn’t give him a warm welcome all the folks on here wouldn’t have had a field day?  That’s what I mean and you know it would have happened!!

Well since it was a "secret" trip to begin with, no one knew he was going, and I didnt hear anyone on here comment on him not going…so NO I dont think anyone on here would have even thought about it.

Well, now, the President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, while in Iraq yesterday said this to the troops, "Under enormous strain and under enormous sacrifice, through controversy and difficulty and policitics, you’ve kept your eyes focused on just doing your jobs.   You have given Iraq the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country."

Obama tells the troops that the war in Iraq was necessary and was successful.    His words.

How true, my dear, it would be nicer if we were making this stuff up.   Then we could be blasted by the left for posting inaccurate information.

"Under enormous strain and under enormous sacrifice, through controversy and difficulty and policitics, you’ve kept your eyes focused on just doing your jobs.   You have given Iraq the opportunity to stand on its own as a democratic country."

How do the above words say "the war in Iraq was necessary and successful?   There’s nothing in those words which says the war was necessary or successful.
