Roberta McCain, the mother of Sen. John McCain, spoke her mind Wednesday night on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno.
In a brief interview, 97-year-old McCain revealed that she speeds (she got pulled over for driving 112 mph), discussed her distaste for Keith Olbermann and shared her thoughts on Rush Limbaugh. While we continue to search the Web for video of the aforementioned exchange, blogger Freedom Eden lays out what McCain said:
She said she doesn’t know what Limbaugh is talking about. She also complained about RNC Chairman Michael Steele kowtowing to Limbaugh. She said Steele was right to call him an entertainer. She acted as if it’s insulting to refer to him that way and he deserves to be insulted. Roberta McCain said, "[Limbaugh] does not represent the Republican Party that I belong to."The near-centennial’s appearance comes after she unleashed her thoughts to a Los Angeles Times reporter. Well, Roberta, I agree with some of the things you said! Rush Limbaugh is a commentator who enjoys entertaining.
I happen to like her confidence at her age. She needs to slow down that car!
I can see it now. The insulted and easily agitated Big Blob Rush will take on Mrs. McCain, and of course, all Republicans will line up behind him. Bowing furiously as always.
Can I explain, before I am tarred and feathered, why Rush Limbaugh is so popular? And yes, I am one of his biggest fans. Do I have courage, or what? Rush’s CPAC speech is a great example. He began by articulating the core beliefs of conservatism: smaller government, lower taxes, free speech, a strong military, the right to keep and bear arms. He quoted the Constitution. He reminded us of our beginnings and why those beliefs are important to keeping our country free. He said that he disagreed with Obama’s policies (he had already made the now famous "I want Obama to fail" statement) and that if those POLICIES were implemented, they would be certain disaster for the US.
I have found that most people who rail about Limbaugh have NEVER listened to his radio show, and have only heard the 10 second sound bites that the other side selectively wants you to hear. He is entertaining - he does say outrageous things, but a lot of it is tongue in cheek and kidding. The people who say that conservatives don’t have a sense of humor need to look in the mirror.
I know any mother is going to be proud of her son. But Mrs. Roberta McCain should know that her son didn’t and doesn’t represent a large portion of the GOP. The battle is still ongoing for the heart and soul of the GOP, but I’ve gotta say, McCain had his chance, and that didn’t turn out so well for the GOP, now did it.
Yes Crux…you do have courage!
Rush says what others only think about saying….but don’t have the guts to. He is inflammatory…he is an entertainer. I do not think that McCain has ever represented the Rep. party…he seems more like a Dem to me.
But, for people to say that Rush is in any way in control of the Rep. party is just ridiculous. Most people that complain about him and call him vile names…never do address any particular points…nope, they sure don’t. They just attack his size…his personal addiction problem the very same things that have made Hollywood actors saints.
Oprah is no svelte goddess next to Rush. Every other week, some other entertainer is "coming out" about their addictions and becoming reality stars on rehab TV. They get paid for being "diet challenged" or "addicted". Rush…he gets attacked.
They just can’t go head to head with Rush on facts…so they demonize the opinion and the man. The really unpleasant and distrubing fact that a President would publically call out a private citizen is proof to the truth that Rush speaks.
If Rush was so marginal and off topic…why would the President make the effort to demonize him? Because Rush is not off topic and is not afraid to call it as he sees it.
