Mitt Romney Blasts Obama | 04/21/2009 9:05 am

Romney Blasts Obama on Foreign Policy: 'A Timid Advocate of Freedom'

Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Michigan who ran for the Republican presidential nomination last year, penned a scathing review of Barack Obama’s foreign policy approach, which he described as "timid." As part of his analysis, Romney hones in on the president’s appearance at the Summit of the Americas this weekend, where Mr. Obama apparently "acquiesced to a 50-minute attack on America as terroristic, expansionist, and interventionist from Nicaraguan president Daniel Ortega." Romney also pointed out that the president offered his first post-inauguration interview to an Arabic television network and blasted him for not doing enough to deter North Korea, which last month launched a long-range missile. He does not point out, however, that the missile failed and crashed into the ocean.

Toward the end of his article, Romney uses Vice-President Joe Biden’s campaign rhetoric against the Commander-in-Chief. Via The National Review Online:

Vice President Biden was right that the new president would be tested early in his administration. What the world learned was not good news for freedom and democracy. The leader of the free world has been a timid advocate of freedom at best. And bold action to blunt the advances of tyrants has been wholly lacking. We are still very early in the Obama years — the president will have ample opportunity to defend America and freedom, and to deter nuclear brinkmanship. I am hoping for change.

What do you think, readers, should the president take a harsher stand on people who express anti-Americanism, or sit side-by-side with them and attempt a dialogue?

WOW!!! You folks need to make a correction…his father was Governor of Michigan.  This Mitt Romney was the Governor of Massachusetts…

Now that we have that pesky ‘wrong state’ issue out of the way…the Massachusett’s Romney really didn’t say anything alot of Obama’s critics have previously stated…including his Vice President.  Obama does need to present a tougher stand on foreign policy (maybe drop the World Apology Tour 09?) and that would be, as Romney states ‘change.’

Of course, Bush’s cowboy "diplomacy" — our way or the highway, dead or alive — drove US foreign relations into the ditch. Only Limbaughites bent on the continued failure of America would advocate continuing down that road to ruin.

Oh Rudi, God bless your heart! I can always count on you to let the Limbaughites know what the truth is! Remind them of that!

Makes you wonder what else they left out in the cut and paste?   I have learned to read the entire link in context first!

LOL…Michigan; Massachusetts; Maryland; Minnesota…and that rogue Montana…all those "M" states are just a blur sometimes.

"This" Mitt Romney raises good points in terms of perceived weaknesses on the part of the US internationally.  Its like the sum total of all the apologies is taking root and nothing good can grow from that.

The North Korea launch, was Kim Jong Il just pooking his thumb in America’s (and Japan’s) eye.  That NEEDED to be addressed…but wasnt.

S.J. Morgan -

I have not googled Governor Romney’s speech but I think I will.   President Obama failed to gain any support from the United Nations to condemn the Korean launch…they wouldn’t even use any of the language suggested by the current administration.  And that follows upon the failure of President Obama to gain any further support from our European allies to fight in Afghanistan.  Obama asked and was denied any combat troops.    And as for the latest Latin American venture, we’ve yet to perceive if any goodwill was generated or if any goodwill was lost by South American nations in fear of Chavez.

You are right about reading an entire link "in context"… yet there was no more written.  I find that strange.

He’s already on the campaign trail? Anyone who puts any credibility into what a politician planning to run in 2012 has to say about this administration is foolish.

NO, President Obama is doing the job he was elected to do. Romney is campaigning.

Romney is hands-down the GOP frontrunner for 2012, primarily because he has the backing of the DC GOP establishment, who have lost confidence in Palin because of her her amateur-hour shenanigans during the campaign and especially because of her incessant attempts since the election to blame them for her lousy performance.

Romney’s biggest challenge in the primaries could be the antipathy directed toward his Mormon religion by the GOP’s evangelical base. In the general, he’d be forced to justify the fact that he made his millions by taking over companies, putting them out of business and shipping these US jobs overseas. He’s also wooden and insincere on the stump. And then there are his 180-degree flipflops on social issues.

Good news is, if he runs, he’ll bring out an extremist like SC Gov. Mark Sanford, who’d probably beat him in the primaries, but whose right wing extremism would turn off regular Americans, especially independent voters.

You know just because some think Palin is not ready to be President does not mean they do not like her or respect her!  Just because she sends shivers of fear up the legs of Libs…who know she is a threat to Obama.

Romney understands business, balancing budgets, making a profit, spending within your means…  in short success !…Obama only knows how to spend money he does not have with any clue as to how to earn it!

He dropped out as the sacrifical cow when the handwriting on the wall said a Republican cannot win against a society hell bent on electing a Black or at least  mostly black man even if he lacks experience and skills needed for the job.

At this point and after we get throught the next 3.5 years Romney’s religion will be the LEAST of their concerns.  The TIDE will turn..just wait and see!

SJ, you’re dreaming. The DC GOP establishment — which includes John McCain — is having nothing more to do with Palin. It was nothing less than stupid for her to trash them by blaming them for her ineptitude — since she had to have known that she can’t have a national career without them. That ship has sailed. Buh-bye.

You are correct about shivers. Her screechy voice sends shivers down the spine of most people. She could chill water.

The only thing about Palin that scares liberals is that we have seen the damage that can be done to the country when conservatives inexplicably fall under the sway of a meagerly gifted ideologue.
