Romney Disses Palin Over Time Magazine's 'Influential' List; Palin Signs on to Abortion Measure (Video)

During an appearance on CNN Sunday, Romney was asked about Time Magazine’s inclusion of Palin and firebrand conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh in its latest "The World’s Most Influential People" edition. The former Massachusetts governor and Republican president hopeful was asked whether that was good or bad for his party.
"I think there are a lot more influential Republicans than that [Time list] would suggest," Romney said. "But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people? … I’m not sure. If it’s the most beautiful, I understand. We’re not real cute.”
But there’s little doubt Republicans want the media to focus on them and issues of substance, rather than Palin and her Bristol-Levi baby drama, or other non-political news. From Politico:
Romney’s quip reflects the deep unease among many in the GOP establishment about the continued high-profile of Limbaugh and especially Palin. There is almost a sense of exasperation among many party elites over the media coverage the two polarizing figures get — attention which, in Palin’s case, is widely seen as a product largely of her good looks and tabloid-fodder family troubles. ‘She’s bigger in the media than in reality,’ lamented GOP consultant Mike Murphy, a longtime friend and adviser to John McCain. ‘Palin is the only Republican politician right now who is interesting, a little different, connected to the last campaign and related to an occasional story in the National Enquirer.’"
Not many days go by these days without Palin in the news. Today, The Anchorage Daily News reports that the former vice presidential candidate is supporting a measure that would make it illegal for Alaska teenagers to get an abortion without telling their parents. Planned Parenthood is protesting the initiative.
Then, there’s video making its way around the Internet today of Palin’s recent address before an Indiana right-to-life group, in which she said she considered aborting her baby, Trigg, who was born with Down’s Syndrome. She learned at 13 weeks along in her pregnancy that her baby had an "abnormality."
"That blew me away. It just rocked my world. And to be honest with you, I had a heck of a time putting my arms around the idea of first having a baby at age 44 who was facing "challenges. It was a time I had to ask myself, was I gonna walk the walk or was I just gonna talk the talk?" Palin said, obviously struggling with the story.
She said she had a "fleeting moment" when she understood why someone would choose abortion (although she never said the word), "just make it go away and get some normalcy back in life — just take care of it … no one would know, but I would know."

Mike Murphy nailed it. Sarah Palin has sordid soap opera star status, and that pains the GOP elite. Sarah’s " fleeting moment" verse about her pregnancy isn’t bothersome. Sadly, we’ve seen and heard Sarah during multiple "fleeting moment" episodes.
Time has caught flack in the past for its choices but has always reminded us that it’s not about the most attractive or most popular or most accomplished …. but about the most influential, one way or the other. Sarah and Rush fall into the " other" category and rightfully so.
I didn’t know Mitch has such a dry sense of humor.
Kristy: just the "liberal" media
TIME magazine is as liberal as they get. I’m surprised they didn’t have 80 photos of Obama on the cover, and 20 of his relatives including his dog, BO.
Marjorie,
Mitt Romney and others from the party have the right to express whatever feelings they have toward Sarah Palin’s mention in Time Magazine (whether its positive or not). Who cares is Time Magazine is liberal or not? It still doesn’t change that Sarah Palin was mentioned as one of the most influential people, and Mitt Romney expressed his feelings about that.
As a liberal I can tell you there really ain’t no mainstream media that’s liberal. If we libs truely had the media power yall think we do, the MSM would be very different.
I don’t know what it says about the media when both sides of the fence think it’s too "other side".
Georgia… i’ve never quite understood why conservatives always think the media is liberal. i mean we did have YEARS of a Republican administration didn’t we? It’s not like the media didn’t report on the Lewinsky thing or on John Edwards mistress or on Joe Biden’s daughters possible cocaine use… My theory is that conservatives have to dismiss anything they don’t agree with as liberal. whether it is or not.
Get real here…this whole "story" is just a double whammy placed by the left. Palin’s character was assassinated by the left…now they have Romney in a no win situation in regard to that question about a woman…
That is what the left is very good at, the underhanded and nasty acts of character assassination…from which the name, label or stigma does not recover. It is an accepted technique of the left, when they can not compete with the facts.
Unfortunately there are so many angry people that equate a nasty retort as a substitute for intelligence. Then the angry, uninformed mob mentality picks up on it and it becomes a disease in our society.
Once again, another contrived article.
Yes and Kelly conveniently forgets the Swift Boat Veterans for Lies, or the McCain had a black baby out of wedlock, or the ads run by Repubs calling Max Cleland a coward, or the Wille Horton campaign…..
I live in NC, the proud state that kept re-electing Jesse Helms so they can’t fool me anymore. This crap about the left being stealth character assasins (sp?) is typical Doughboy Rove playbook: accuse your opponent of what you are doing.
New Palin news: Bristol is going to speak against teen pregnancy for the Candies Foundation - when you visit the Candies website you find that Britney is the star there. Talk about cognitive dissonance!
