Roxana Saberi's Dad: Time Running Out to Free Journalist Daughter from Iranian Prison

Roxana Saberi’s dad is worried that if his daughter isn’t freed from an Iranian prison within the next day or so, he may not see her for at least several more weeks.
Saberi, an American freelance journalist detained in Tehran’s Evin Prison, was arrested after buying a bottle of illegal wine, but Iranian authorities insisted the arrest came because Saberi’s press pass had run out. Her work, therefore, was illegal.
Her father, Reza Saberi, of Fargo, ND, says if Roxana isn’t released before the onset of the Iranian New Year of Norouz, which begins the first day of spring, she may have to sit in prison for at least another two weeks. She’s been there for six already. Hoping to free his daughter, Mr. Saberi called on Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-ND, to help. Dorgan said he would touch base with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-MN, has also weighed in. Sen. Kent Conrad, D-ND, and Rep. Earl Pomeroy are also keeping tabs on Saberi’s status. Iran said it was done with its investigation of Saberi and she could go free, but that was weeks ago.
"I certainly hope they’re not dragging their feet, but obviously there’s growing concern about why this is taking so long to resolve," State spokesman Robert Wood said Monday. "We want to do what we can to bring her back home … (We) want to see this resolved, and quickly."
